Weekly Update – 4/3/2017

This wasn’t a great workout week, but it was a really nice week otherwise.  I had some great quality time with Michael and got out of the house and had a blast.

Monday

Decided that since it was warmer weather out, we’d get in 2 miles outside.  We walked around my mom’s neighborhood (its a mile around).

Tuesday

Got in 2 miles on the treadmill.

Wednesday

I was exhausted from a long day on Wednesday and wasn’t feeling well, so I decided to skip yoga.

Thursday

We had our date night on Thursday and watched a movie on Netflix.

Friday

We had a showing on Friday night, so we got out of the house and went to Mexican.

Saturday

On Saturday, we had to be out of the house for a few showings, so we decided to drive up to Richmond and get our rings cleaned and get some lunch.  We found a cool place called Supper! and had some great salads.

We came home in the early afternoon, and then went out to Mermaid Winery with some friends and had a great night.

Sunday

After church on Sunday, we grabbed some lunch and did our grocery shopping.  We stopped by the house to measure for a fridge and got to see the progress.  We then went to Home Depot and bought said fridge!

We also had to file a police report because someone decided to shoot a BB gun through my taillight.

How was your week? Do you like going to wineries?

Weekly Update – 10/19/15 aka Fall Vacation!

This week was a pretty different week, as I was gone for a work conference and we had our fall vacation.  We were long overdue for some good R&R.  I was excited to go to a few wineries and see my nephew and take millions of pictures with him!

O.M.G, those cheeks!

Monday

Monday was a normal day at work.  When I came home, my in-laws were there for a surprise visit, so I ended up not going to yoga.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, I worked a half day in the morning, then we headed up to Philadelphia for a work conference for me.  The drive was pretty uneventful.  Once we got up there, we went to Reading Terminal Market.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, I had my work conference all day, while Michael went to Atlantic City to play some blackjack.

Thursday

On Thursday, I had my conference until noon.  After that, we headed off to Waynesboro (near Charlottesville, VA) for our fall vacation.  We had a nice trip, again, pretty uneventful.

Friday

On Friday morning, we slept in and took our time getting going for the day.  We drove out to a cool B&B called the Iris Inn.  We will definitely stay there in the future.

These cabins are AMAZING!

Then we headed off to Veritas Winery to meet up with my brother and his fiancé.  They are getting married there next year.

Afterward, we headed to the campground to meet up with all of my family.  We played cornhole, ate, drank, and had a great time.

Saturday

On Saturday, we got up and headed out to Bold Rock Cidery.  I am allergic to apples, so no cider for me, but it was a really cool place!

He LOVED cider!

So pretty, even with the clouds…

The next stop was Afton Mountain Vineyards.  This place was really cool and had fantastic wine. The big group of us polished off 3 bottles.

Afterward, we headed back to the campground for more food, drink and cornhole!

Sunday

On Sunday, we headed back.  Made a quick pit stop at tiffany’s to get my rings cleaned.  We caught up on laundry, TV and some cleaning when we got home.

Do you take a fall vacation? Do you like going to wineries?

October Vacation + Engagement Pictures

After Crawlin Crab on Sunday, I was so ready for a relaxing week off! My stress levels have been pretty high recently, and this vacation couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.

Monday

I dragged my butt out of bed for my mani/pedi appointment.  Once I arrived at the salon, I was surprised to find out that the salon had been repossessed by the bank! I really needed my nails done before our engagement shots on Tuesday.  I had my haircut at 11:30, and thankfully she has a nail person that was able to do my nails on such short notice!  Mom and I even got a chance to go out to lunch together.  It was a great recuperation day after the half.

Yes I used a filter. No shame in my game.

Our first stop was in Richmond to get my ring cleaned and shop for wedding bands at TIFFANY’S!

Aren’t we so cute?!

Like a kid in a candy shop!

We then headed up to Orange to check into our hotel and get ourselves ready for our engagement pictures.  We had our pictures taken at Carter Mountain Orchard by the fabulous Katelyn James Photography.  You can check out the rest of our pictures here.  Despite some rain that forced us to find a secondary location, it was a fantastic time!

Thursday

Thursday was a more relaxed day.  We had breakfast and then sat outside at the hotel and did some reading and relaxing.  Later in the afternoon we headed toward Culpepper and went to two Greek vineyards. We had been to Mediterranean cellars before, but Molon Lave was a last minute decision and we LOVED it.  We even bought a bottle of wine and came back to the hotel and sat out to watch the sunset.

Friday

On Friday, we headed to Stuarts Draft to visit my stepsister and her husband.  We went to Barren Ridge for our last wine tasting of the trip.

Later that night, we went into Staunton to have dinner with some of Michael’s friends.

Saturday

This was our last day, we got up pretty early to head home, since we had a work picnic that afternoon.  The weather got a little rough once we got there, so we didn’t stay long, but it was a fun time.

Sunday

Had church in the morning on Sunday, then got a lot done around the house and just caught up after being gone on vacation.  I had dinner with my Dad, stepmom and stepsister, and my future brother in law even came with me.  It was a great week and a nice relaxing weekend to wrap up the week.

Do you like going to wineries? How was your weekend?

Labor Day Weekend + A Silly Injury

I was super excited about this weekend because Michael and I went to Arlington to see my brother (Jaryd) and his girlfriend (Laura)!

We got up early on Saturday morning.  I hate getting up early on my day off, but it was ok because I got my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season!

Displaying photo 1.JPG

PSL, how I love you!

We got up there around 10am.  We checked out my brother’s apartment and then made a gameplan for the day.  We planned on doing a bunch of wineries, so we started heading west.  Let me just point out that I’m not a huge wine person.  I will drink it, but it is not my first choice.  Take all my reviews with a grain of salt 🙂

The first one we went to was The Winery at Bull Run.  Their wines were pretty good, but I really liked the atmosphere most.  They had both an inside and outside tasting bar (we opted for outside).

Aren’t we cute?

Then we headed to Mediterranean Cellars.  This is a greek winery that is a favorite of my dad’s.  He sent me with a list of wines to pick up for him.  It was pretty good. They had a really good port wine that I bought for Michael and me. It had such a cool European feel.

Displaying photo 2.JPG

Overcast, but still pretty!

Next we headed to Marterella Winery, just down the road from Mediterranean Cellars.  I was not very impressed with the wines here, or the service, to be honest.  Maybe I was just grumpy because I needed food, I’m not sure, but I just was not impressed.

We went to a local Irish pub for lunch.  They served a nice bread for appetizers, and I got a chicken Caesar salad.  Jaryd and Laura split a shepherd’s pie that looked pretty good, and Michael got a shrimp Caesar salad.

We got back on the road for the last two wineries.  The next one we hit up was Linden Vineyards.  Jaryd and Laura were really excited to go there. It was one of the most beautiful views I’ve seen.  The wine was decent, but not as outstanding as any of us were expecting.

Isn’t this place gorgeous!?

The last place we went was my favorite; the Winery at La Grange. I ended up buying a bottle of their viognier.  So good. I didn’t get any pictures and I wish I had.

We headed back to Arlington, got checked into our hotel and then headed out for dinner.  We met Laura and Jaryd and Laura’s parents at the Grand Cru. I had the most outstanding Rustic Mac and Cheese; I was so full I couldn’t finish it! We had a lot of fun getting to know Laura’s parents.  They are so wonderful.

YUM.

We fell asleep pretty quick and slept in a bit the next day(Sunday). We got up and found a Starbucks and got our day started off right.  We hopped on the metro and headed into Eastern Market.

This is where it all went wrong.

We stepped out onto the sidewalk after exciting the metro station and instantly I stepped wrong, rolled my ankle and fell to the ground.  I’m not sure how I gracefully ended up on my butt, because I definitely should have gone down sideways.  Don’t mind me, fellow pedestrians, I’m just an idiot sitting in your walkway.  Of course, when you roll your ankle, it hurts like hell for the first couple minutes.  I eventually was able to wiggle it around and get up. Bearing weight didn’t bother it so much, but walking did. I toughed it out and stupidly proceeded to walk around on it the rest of the day. Of course, walking around a city is about the worst thing you can do because the ground is uneven everywhere.  I stepped funny a few more times and made it angry at me.

We went to the Museum of Natural History and walked around the mall area to see some of the monuments and then decided it was time for lunch.  We went to a pretty cool beer/burger joint for a late lunch, then got back on the road (and off my foot!).

How do I feel about my injury?

Well, it doesn’t hurt too bad now.  Every once and awhile I’ll step in just a certain way that aggravates it.  I haven’t tried doing anything other than walking yet, but we’ll see.  Of course my mind immediately goes to my half-marathon.  I have not sufficiently prepared for this half thus far, and I can’t afford to back off now.  However, like I said, it doesn’t really hurt that bad.  I feel even a little funny saying I injured myself because I’m not really in pain. I have a workout with my trainer – we’ll see how that goes.  Not sure if I want to try to run just yet. I’m just annoyed more than anything else.  I’m the type of person that just is clumsy and hurts themselves by just walking around a city!!!

Have you ever gotten injured in a really silly way? Have you ever fallen in a public place and embarrassed yourself?
