Weekly Update – 12/26/2016

This week was such a wonderful, relaxing time off. I absolutely love spending time with family and relaxing and forgetting all about the stresses of life.  I hope your holiday season was the same!

Monday

Omg, its a miracle….I went to the gym.

1 Mile treadmill, 800 meter row.  Followed by 3 rounds of 10 each:

  • TRX row
  • TRX squats

Afterward, we had some relax time, then ran some errands.  Then we went to see Passengers.  Great movie – highly recommend it.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, we went BACK to the gym.  Another miracle.  Did 2 miles on the treadmill. I really don’t remember what I did the rest of the day!

Wednesday-Thursday

On Wednesday we went to visit my brother and his wife in northern VA.  We went to the new MGM Grand casino in Maryland, ate some great food, spent time with them.  It was such a great time, I completely ignored my phone – hence my lack of pictures from anything we did with them!

Friday

We left my brother’s house Friday morning and went to see my husband’s aunt.  She cooked us a great Monte Cristo sandwich and we spent some quality time.  We spent the night in a hotel on Friday night rather than fighting DC traffic to get home.

Saturday

We took our time getting up on Sunday.  We had breakfast at Bob Evans before hitting the road.  We both crashed when we go home before the NYE festivities.  We had a great time at my dad and stepmom’s house.  We ate lots of wonderful food, played blackjack, watched the NYE special, and played that whipped cream in the face game.

Sunday

On Sunday, we slept in, did some chores and started cleaning up the house.  We also went furniture shopping, found stuff we loved and put our living room furniture on layaway!

How was your holiday? Did you have any time off? Do you ever “unplug” and put your electronic devices away?

Weekly Update – 11/16/15

This week was a pretty good one.  I made it to a few yoga classes and did a night of weights.  I also had a 5k this past weekend, and had a lot of fun life things going on.  Work has still been crazy, but I’m in a much better place emotionally about it.

Monday

Yoga was good.  It was a pretty full class.  I had a breakthrough with my balancing half moon pose.  We usually enter it from a lunge position, which has my hip flexor “bent” and then when I straighten the leg I’m balancing on, my hip flexor hurts when I straighten it (my hip flexors are VERY weak).  But, we had our legs straight when we entered it this time (like your legs are in triangle) and because my hip flexor was already  in the position it was going to be in when I move into balancing half moon, it didn’t hurt! Miracle.

Tuesday

Omg, a normal gym night.  I didn’t do anything too crazy, especially since I really haven’t been hitting the gym very hard recently.  Gotta ease back into it!

Warmup: foam roll, 10 minutes on elliptical

Three Rounds:

  1.  Split kneel overhead press (10 each side)
  2. Dumb bell rows from push up position (10 each side)

Three Rounds:

  1. 1o Goblet squats (20lbs)
  2. 10 TRX back rows

Wednesday

Yoga was good.  It was a pretty small class.  I spent most of the class being extremely mindful of being very accurate in my postures.  I’ve gotten complacent of late, simply going through the motions, and not really focusing on form.  I really enjoyed class.

Thursday

Skipped the gym because it was opening night for the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2!!!! I’m a little obsessed. No spoilers here – it was good and I was very happy that it was pretty consistent to the book.

Friday

I’ve hoarded a bunch of my vacation days, so I took the day off to relax and to get some Christmas decorating done.  I did a ton of laundry and felt extremely productive.

After Michael got home from work, we went to get my race packet for Saturday.

Saturday

Saturday was the Harbor Lights 5k.  Recap to come!

After the race we went up to the new Whole Foods.  There was a new Steinmart in the shopping center too, so I had some fun.  I was starving so we stopped for some chickfila.  I was eating it and realized the chickfila sauce didn’t taste right.  I had a bit of a sour stomach after that, so we just had a relaxed night in and watched some Netflix.

Sunday

We had church on Sunday, then headed down to NC to see Michael’s parents.  They built a fire and we were nice and cozy on such a rainy, cold day!

Did you race this weekend? How do you like to spend cold, rainy days?

Weekly Update – 9/7/15

This week was pretty uneventful.  I didn’t get as many workouts in as I wanted, but I was glad I pushed myself to get to yoga class on Friday since I had missed my normal Monday and Wednesday yoga classes.

Monday

I talked about Monday in last week’s post!

Tuesday

I had a pretty exhausting day at work on Tuesday, but I forced myself to go to the gym anyway.

Warmup: Foam Roll

Conditioning: 1 mile on the elliptical

5 Rounds:

  1. ReACT Trainer – 1 minute
  2. 10 TRX Rows

Wednesday

Skipped yoga on account that it was my husband’s birthday! We went to Outback Steakhouse to celebrate 🙂

unnamed

Isn’t he cute with his rum drink?

Thursday

I was a little all over the place on Thursday.

Warmup: 1/2 mile on the elliptical

3 Rounds:

  1. 10 KB Goblet Squats
  2. Farmer’s Carry

3 Rounds:

  1. Kneeling Lunge Overhead press (5 each side)

Cool down/mobility:

  1. Walking RDLs
  2. Walking Lunges

Friday

I think I pushed it on Thursday, cause my poor glutes and hammys hated me! I decided that since I hadn’t been able to make it to yoga all week, Neve’s hatha yoga class on Friday night was just what I needed.  However, Jaye was subbing, so we ended up doing more flow.  I will say that Jaye really did attempt to make class a hatha class.  We did a lot of stretchy stuff, which was good, but was a challenge due to my soreness!

Saturday

Ouch, I woke up double sore on Saturday.  I had to get up at 6am, because we had a big application install at work. I worked about 8 hours, then my husband and I went to the ODU football game.  We ended up getting drenched at the tailgate because of some afternoon storms, then the storms came back right before halftime.  We decided it was time to pack up and go.

Sunday

On Sunday, we went to church in the morning, then came home and did all our grocery shopping.  We had an early dinner at my dad’s to celebrate his birthday and Michael’s birthday.  Afterward, we came back home and did our food prep for the week.

How was your week? How do you celebrate birthdays in your family?

Weekly Update – 8/24/15

I felt really good again this week about getting to the gym so much.  I haven’t been working as much on mobility exercises on my own, so getting back to yoga on a more consistent basis has been helpful.

 Monday

Yoga was great, but difficult.  Jaye wanted to keep us in warrior poses almost the entire time.  That seems to really bother my plantar fasciitis, so I was not a happy camper.

Tuesday

Warmed up with some foam rolling and stretching.

5 Rounds:

  1.  200 Meter Row
  2. 10 bodyweight squats

My form on my rowing must have been off, because my lower back became pretty unhappy. So, I finished up with 15 minutes on the elliptical.

Wednesday

We had a small class at yoga, so Jaye decided we’d do partner work.  I’m not a huuuuge fan of it, but the woman I was partnered with was very nice.  We also did legs up the wall for final relaxation, which for some reason I didn’t like.  But yay for trying something new!

Thursday

I worked from home on Thursday, which meant that by the time I got to the gym, I was feeling extroverted and had a lot of energy.  I decided not to go crazy though, because I didn’t want to hurt myself!

Warmup: Foam roll and 1/2 mile on the elliptical

3 Rounds:

  1. 10 half kneeling off-set overhead press (each side)
  2. 10 plank rows (each side)

Then I just did a single round of single leg deadlifts (10 each side).  I haven’t done them in awhile, and when I start doing them again, they tend to hurt my back.

3 Rounds:

  1. TRX rows
  2. TRX pushups

Friday

On Friday, Michael and I spent the night in and watched movies on Netflix.

Saturday

Saturday morning was relatively lazy, but then we went to a big family picnic at work.  They had food, games for the kids, etc.  It was a great time to hang out with people from work in a non-work setting.  After that, we headed to a family friend’s house to sit on their back deck with my mom and stepdad.  They live on the water and it was a beautiful night!

Sunday

On Sunday, we had church, then we headed to our friend’s house for our church Fantasy football draft.  I am less than pleased with my team. We’ll see what happens though!

How was your week? Do you play fantasy football?

Weekly Update – 8/17/15

Michael and I did fantastically this week – we were active 5 days this week!  We felt wonderful about how well we did! Hopefully that’ll encourage us to keep it up.

Monday

Yoga! Class was pretty good, but I have these terrible inability to hold a crescent lunge…and that was her favorite thing to do on Monday.  I opted for a kneeling modification, but still struggled with my balance.  Any yogis out there have any tips?!

Tuesday

I used the stick at home pretty extensively, so I didn’t foam roll.  I just jumped on the elliptical for a quick 10 minute warmup.

5 Rounds: 200 meter row, 10 KB Goblet squats

Then I did 5 minutes on the stair -stepper…. holy crap, that’s hard.  New cross training activity?

Wednesday

Yoga was a bit more restorative on Wednesday.  I think she could sense how many newcomers there were to class and made it a bit easier.  As a result I felt like I was one of the more advanced people in the class, which was pretty cool!

Thursday

I foam rolled and stretch awhile, then warmed up with 15 minutes on the elliptical.

5 Rounds:

  1. 1 minutes on the ReACT
  2. 10 TRX Rows

Friday

Friday was a rest day! We had a date night out and saw Vacation Movie.

Saturday

On Saturday, we slept in a little, then got straight to work.  We were having my parents over for dinner so we went grocery shopping, then Michael came back and did all of our normal food prep for the week, as well as prepared everything for dinner.  I got to work on laundry and all of the other cleaning chores.  Our house has not been so clutter free in a long time!

After we got all our work done, we headed to a riverfront neighborhood near us and went for a 2 mile walk.  The weather was great and it was nice to get out of the house.  We came back incredibly exhausted and crashed until my parents got there.  We had a great night and even got to watch my Philadelphia Eagles win their second preseason game!

Sunday

On Sunday, we had church, then we grabbed lunch and ran a few errands.  We stayed up in Newport News because we had a congregational meeting at 4pm.  We spent some time with some friends of ours until then.  The meeting was good, but also left us feeling conflicted about our future at our church.  Not that we don’t love it, its wonderful, but it is pretty far away, and they are talking about purchasing a building even further away. Lots to think about!

How was your week? Are you excited for football season to start up again?

Weekly Update – 8/10/15

Monday

I mowed the lawn after work and STUPIDLY didn’t put on bug spray.  I paid for it hardcore with several dozen bites on the back of my legs.  So itchy!

Tuesday

Warmup: 10 minutes elliptical

Workout:

  1. 1 minute ReACT trainer, 5 pushups (x5)
  2. 200 meter row, 10 KB swings (x5)

I’ve noticed when I do the ReACT that my hip flexors have weakened up quite a bit and I’ve lost some of my flexibility and mobility in my hips.  I need to go back to yoga – that will help loosen them up.

Wednesday

I finally went to yoga! Jaye was a little tough on us, but it was a good class. My hips are super tight.

Thursday

I spend a lot of time foam rolling and stretching.  For some reason, when I foam roll, I tend to neglect my IT band.  When I rolled them for the first time in ages, they hurt so bad!  Guess I need to work on that.

Did a pretty light workout:

  1. 10 minutes elliptical
  2. 3 rounds of :30 bird dog hold each side, then :30 plank
  3. 3 rounds of 10 TRX rows and 10 TRX push ups

Friday

After a crazy week at work, we just relaxed on Friday night.  We got some Mexican food with Michael’s brother and just had a relaxing evening!

Saturday

On Saturday, we woke up early and drove up toward DC to see my brother and his fiancé.  We had a mimosa tour of the house, went for a hike at Great Falls, went to a house warming party, and had homemade strawberry ice cream!  I don’t know how they have so much energy.  By Friday, I’m shot.

Great Falls!

Homemade strawberry ice cream!

Sunday

We slept in a little bit, then went to a cool restaurant called Ted’s Bulletin for brunch.  I had fabulous chicken and biscuits that I forgot to get a picture of because I devoured it.

Do you have siblings? Do you get to see them often?

Weekly Update – 8/3/15

Monday

Since Michael and I were away all weekend, Monday night was a night for us to catch up on a lot of stuff. We food prepped for the week, did a bunch of laundry, and got the house back in working order.  I will get back to yoga one day!

Tuesday

Warmup: 15 minutes on the elliptical

Workout:

3 Rounds:

  1. 10 TRX rows
  2. 10 bodyweight squats

3 Rounds:

  1. 20 Russian Twists
  2. Bird Dog – 30 sec each side

Wednesday

We went for a double date with some friends of ours.  We went to No Frill Grill and it was yummy!

Fish Tacos!

Thursday

Thursday was a super easy workout day.  I just did 15 minutes on the elliptical and then did a ton of stretching and mobility exercises.  I’ve neglected them, and I’m paying for it. I hear yoga calling my name.

I got my real workout when I got home and weeded the front flower bed.

Friday

On Friday, we had Michael’s parents over for dinner, then proceeded to play blackjack all night. Its always great to see them.

Saturday

Saturday was a pretty chill day.  I had hopes of getting the yard done, but the rain had different ideas.  We got a lot of house chores done, then in the afternoon we went to see Ricki and the Flash.  It wasn’t an amazing movie, but it was good and entertaining.  And of course, how could you not love Meryl Streep?! If I ever had the opportunity to meet that woman, I’d probably turn into a pile of mush.  She’s fabulous.

My husband got me pretty flowers!

Sunday

After church, we grabbed a quick lunch, ran some errands, then headed to my dad’s for a Greek dinner.  My stepmom’s brother was in town, and they made some of her mother’s favorite Greek recipes for dinner.  I’m not a huge Greek food fan, but she made some of the foods I really like!

What movies have you seen lately? Do you like Greek food?
