Weekly Update – 1/1/2018

Monday

Since Monday was New Year’s Day, we had the day off of work.  We slept in some, even though our New Year’s Eve was uneventful and spent at home.

We went to the gym, and I did a 5k on the treadmill.  I was too pooped from staying up late (I’m such an old person!) to do any strength training.

We spent the rest of the day watching movies on Netflix.

Tuesday

I stayed home on Tuesday and got in 2 miles on the treadmill.

Wednesday

Since the impending snow bomb hurricane thing was coming, the gym closed early on Wednesday.  I opted for 2 miles on my treadmill at home.

Thursday

Work was closed on Thursday due to the 10+ inches of snow that we got.  I still had some conference calls and other work to get done.  But I still had some time to enjoy the snow fall.

snow2.jpgI got 1.5 miles in on the treadmill, and did some strength training.

Three rounds of the following:

  • 15 overhead press (8 lbs)
  • 15 bicep curls (8 lbs)

I also shoveled half of the driveway, which was a crazy workout!

Friday

On Friday, my workout was shoveling the other half of the driveway and some of the walkways.  We only worked half a day, so I had plenty of time to get it done.

Saturday

On Saturday, I was super sore from my two days of shoveling.  I was still super active around the house though.  I spent a lot of time organizing and getting rid of stuff.  Nothing like being stuck in the house to encourage cleaning.  I wish I had gotten some “before” pictures, but when I’m all done, I’ll have to post some “after” pictures.

On Saturday night, we ventured out and went to a friend’s house for poker night.

Sunday

I did NOT feel like working out on Sunday.  We slept in, then did some cleaning, shopping, etc.  I still managed to get all my steps in for the day!

Were you affected by the huge snowstorm this past week?  What did you do to keep from going crazy?

Weekly Update – 1/2/2017

Other than the snowstorm we got that kept us inside, this felt like a very good week.  Very productive in terms of the house and very good from a work/balance perspective.

Monday

Since we work at a bank, we also got Monday off as the observed day for New Years.  We got up, drank our coffee, then started tackling the house.  We plan on listing it on Friday, so we had a lot to clean up!  Here are a few things we did: mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors, dusted, cleaned all the baseboards, vacuumed, took down all the Christmas décor, took more stuff to storage, made a crockpot meal, 2 loads of laundry, etc.

I had no guilt about not making it to the gym.  That was some hard work and I was very sore the next day!

Tuesday

Tuesday was a really rough day back to work. After work, we hit up the gym.  I did a quick 2 miles on the treadmill.  Its hard not to be at the fitness level I used to be, but I know better than to push it.  Slow and steady!

Wednesday

I finally made it back to yoga and it felt so good.  Thankfully, Jaye did a more restorative class instead of her normal flow yoga class, so it was a bit easier to get back into it.

Thursday

On Thursday, the impending doom of snowmaggedon was apparent, so we did our grocery shopping to make sure we had enough essentials through the weekend.  We also got ingredients to make a pretty fantastic beef stew.

Friday

After work, the realtor came over to get everything together to list the house! The market is starting to rebound, and she’s confident we can list it a little higher than we originally anticipated.

Saturday

On Saturday, the snow started falling before we woke up.  We were anticipating 8-12 inches, but knew the forcasters were probably a bit off.  They were. The heaviest snow was a little farther north.  We still got a good 6-8 inches though.  It was true blizzard conditions, and that wind was insane!

We made the wonderful beef stew – I wish I had a picture of the finished product, but I have a few prep pics.  We watched a lot of Netflix, played on our devices, watched the snow fall, etc.

Sunday

The temperatures didn’t rise at all on Sunday.  It was another day inside the house.  Michael did go out and shovel a little bit and clear the cars.  We knew it was likely we’d have to go into work on Monday, so we wanted to be prepared.

Did you get any snow where you are? What is your favorite thing to do when you are stuck inside due to weather?

Weekly Update – 2/16/15

Monday

Since Michael and I had stayed in NOVA on Sunday night, we got an early start back home since we had some nasty winter weather we wanted to beat.  The snow started around 2:30 pm and continued on into the night.  Michael and I made a last minute trip to the store and then got started on our Bates Motel Season 2 Netflix marathon.

Tuesday

We got the glorious news that work was closing for the day and we didn’t have to go in.  Michael and I spent the day watching the rest of Bates Motel Season 2.  The gym closed at 5pm, so no workout with Danny.

Wednesday

We had an hour delay into work.  Getting my car out was an adventure, and so were navigating the neighborhood roads, but the main roads were clear.  The sheet of ice on top of all the snow made it very interesting.  I had to drive Michael to work because he couldn’t get the BMW out.  Score one for the practical Honda 🙂 I didn’t make it to yoga after work.

Thursday

Can I just say, that with all of the snow and ice we have…my gym parking lot was the WORST? I worked out with Nicole again.  She always kicks my butt so hard that I hurt for days.  We did 3 rounds of the following:

1. 10 Double KB deadlifts

2. 10 KB Bent-Over Row (each side)

3. 10 Double KB sumo squats

4. 10 Slide to Bridge (holy crap weak hamstrings)

5. 30 seconds resistance band plank jumping jacks

Friday

Michael’s car was STILL stuck on Friday.  I drove him to work all week!  We found out that we got profit sharing (essentially a bonus) of 3% of our salary.  It usually works out to an extra paycheck.  Yay!

My cousins were in town from Pennsylvania, so Michael and I spent some time at my mom’s house socializing with them.  I rarely get a chance to see them, so it was great to catch up.

Saturday

Danny and Nicole were out of town for a fancy training thing that I can’t remember the abbreviation of.  Since they were gone, I slept in – and it was delightful.  Michael and I ran some errands out in Greenbrier and had lunch at Baker’s Crust.  Their tomato and cheese soup is to die for!  After working on some budget stuff in the afternoon, we went back over to my mom’s so we could go out to dinner with my cousins.  We ended up at No Frill Grill in Norfolk.

Sunday

We had church in the morning, then after, Michael and I headed down to NC to see his parents.  We had a nice relaxed day with them, and then spent time with his brother in the evening.  We started to work on moving plans, since his brother is buying the condo!

Did you get any snow this past week?  What do you like to do on snow days?
