This week started off rough, but got better as the week went on. I can’t wait to have a normal week again. Here’s hoping this coming week is a bit better.
Home sick with a stomach bug.
I went back to work after being out sick and out for my grandfather’s funeral. It was a really rough day…lots of work and I was exhausted. I crashed after work and fell asleep for an hour. On the plus side, I was able to eat a relatively normal meal for dinner.
Thursday was a much better day at work. I was able to eat incrementally more. Still no working out.
On Friday, we went to Outback for dinner with my dad, stepmom and stepsister. I had some salmon and broccoli. My first normal meal! It was good to spend time with them, as I hadn’t seen them for awhile.
On Saturday, Michael and I had a pretty lazy day. I did 4 loads of laundry, we did grocery shopping and some cleaning. We did try a new recipe and made some avocado ranch dressing. We put it over a yummy taco salad. We made enough to eat off of for part of the week.
Full disclosure: the only thing I helped prepare was the taco meat. I’m not a cook.
On Sunday we had church responsibilities and then we went to see Michael’s parents. We hadn’t yet celebrated my birthday or my father in law’s birthday. We went out to eat, then came back to his parents house for dessert and presents.
Bunless chicken cordon bleu sandwich. So delicious!
How was your week? When was the last time you tried a new recipe?
So, since I got sick last week, I’ve been thinking some about if you should exercise when sick; when its ok and when its not. I’m pretty much a giant wuss when I’m sick, and more often than not, I opt for rest instead of pushing through a workout. So I took to the internets to find out what other people had to say.
1. Working out While Sick Infographic – This one is my favorite because its an infographic 🙂
2. Working out While Sick – This is an article of most of the same information as the infographic above for those of you who don’t like pretty pictures.
3. Should You Run When You’re Sick? – Runner’s World makes some interesting points about potentially worsening a cold by not recognizing your limits.
4. Best and worst exercises to do when you have a cold – CNN explores why some activities may be good or bad for you.
What do you do when you are sick? Push through and exercise/run? Or do you take the opportunity to take a few rest days?
I decided to forgo my normal weekly update format of showing you what I did each day, because I did nothing!
Michael got sick first. He started feeling bad on Sunday. I should have known I was going to get it next!
I started feeling bad on Monday night and when I woke up Tuesday, I had a full blown cold/flu/virus from hell. Sore throat, congestion, low grade fever…etc. I didn’t go to work from Tuesday-Thursday. I started feeling a little better on Friday and decided that I had missed too much work so I needed to go.
I got bad again Friday night and started losing my voice. Saturday was pretty terrible. Michael and I had a wedding to attend for my dear friend Jessie. There was no way I was missing that, so I medicated up, grabbed my cough drops and made it until after dinner. We left early and missed a lot, but I’m so glad I could see Jessie and Jon and their beautiful wedding.
Sunday was the real test of how I was feeling, as I went to church and then had a premarital counseling session. I managed to hold my own, even with my super raspy sexy deep voice.
So….I’m hoping that the worst is gone and I can get back to a normal routine soon.
Have you gotten really sick this winter? How do you cope with laryngitis?
I’m sick and feel like having a pity party for myself. Granted I’m not super sick, just mostly allergy and sinus kind of sick. But it sucks not being able to breath through your nose. I had to run a total of 1050 meters last night during my workout…. it was way harder than it should have been!
I think the change in the weather is just kicking my butt!
I have the Wicked 10k this weekend and I want to do it (Halloween themed!) I’m going to rest up like crazy these next few days, and push through. No way I’m going to miss the opportunity to dress up and run with a bunch of other crazies in a costume!
I wish this were true!
Are you a big baby like me when you are sick? Have you ever gotten sick the week of a race?
