Weekly Update – 9/28/15

I was looking forward to the Crawlin Crab 5k, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the weather.  It was a great week to catch up from life and de-stress.

Monday

Body Flow night! I’m actually starting to like this class a lot.  I like doing different sections to music.  Although the ab track is NOT my favorite.  I can’t believe I ever used to take a 30 min abs class.  Maybe I need to get back to that….

Tuesday

Everything on Tuesday worked against me getting to the gym.  I ended up skipping.

Wednesday

The stretch and strengthen class is starting to grow on me, but I had to go to worship team practice.  My church is celebrating 9 years on Sunday – so we wanted to make sure to get a little extra practice time in.

Thursday

Warm up: Foam Roll

Heart Rate Training: Elliptical for 1/2 mile, keeping heart rate under 150

5 Rounds:

  1. 1 minute on the ReACT trainer
  2. 10 KB high pulls
  3. 5 KB swings

On Thursday, I found out that the Crawlin Crab race weekend had been postponed by 2 weeks due to the nor’easter we’d been having, as well as the impending doom of Hurricane Joaquin!

Friday

On Friday night, we went to get some Mexican food with Michael’s brother, and just had a relaxing evening.

Saturday

Crawlin Crab was cancelled, so I took advantage of it and slept in like a champ!  We got some laundry and other chores done, but mostly we just hung around the house watching movies and being lazy!

Sunday

Sunday was our 9 year celebration of our church’s existence.  It was a great service and wonderful celebration.  We came home, did more chores, got the grocery shopping done for the week, and watched our Eagles lose. I also lost in fantasy football 😦  We also had a little adventure with the stove….Michael was cooking and burnt all our vegetables into the pan.  We think the one burner heats up a lot more than the others for some reason.  While I know there are things you can do to try to clean it…yeahhhh we are a bit lazy. It was so bad we had to throw the pot out – there was no saving it.

There was no saving this pot. RIP.

Have you ever ruined a pot? Did the rain ruin your weekend plans?

Weekly Update – 9/21/15

I’m doing a much better job at consistently getting to the gym.  I think it helps a lot with my stress levels, and gives me a good outlet.  This week was a little different due to having Jaye gone and having subs for all her classes.

Monday

Since Jaye is gone for about a month, I have to get used to Monday night not being a true yoga night.  Looks like on Monday’s we will be doing Les Mills Body Flow.  I’ve done this class before.  It combines yoga, Tai Chi, and pilates. Its not terrible.  I also like that its only 55 minutes as opposed to the 75 minute yoga class.  Frees up a little more of my evening! Class was good, but it’ll take a little getting used to.

Tuesday

I ate a snack before the gym that did not sit right with me.  I had the worst heartburn. As a result, I didn’t push it too hard.

Warm up: Foam Roll and 1/2 mile on the elliptical

5 Rounds:

  1. 1 minute on the ReACT trainer
  2. 10 TRX rows

Cool down: walking lunges and walking single leg RDLs

Funny thing seen at the gym….watching someone do wall balls and break the wall!

IMG_3677

Also….a girl did that! 🙂

Wednesday

So now that I was expecting Wednesday night not to be Vinyasa flow, but instead was going to be this Stretch and Strengthen class, I was more ok with it.  Still not sure if I like the class, but its better than nothing!

Thursday

Warm up: Foam Roll

Two Rounds:

  1. Walking RDLs with 10 lb DBs
  2. Walking Lunges with 10 lb DBs

5 Rounds:

  1. 200 Meter Row
  2. 10 body weight squats

Friday

On Friday night, Michael and I went to the movies with my mom and stepdad to see The Intern.  I love Anne Hathaway and have really begun to love DeNiro in comedies.  It was a great movie.

Saturday

On Saturday I got to sleep in!  After awhile, we went to a local community to meet with a builder to learn about their building process and the base prices of their homes.  We like the builder and the area, but we aren’t sure about the school system.  Its also much father away from the interstate, and that’s a convenience factor we aren’t sure we are ready to compromise on.  Afterward, we went to his parents house for a late lunch and spent some good time with that.  We had a pretty lazy night at home.

Sunday

On Sunday, we went to church, then headed home for an absolutely lazy day. It was delightful and just what the doctor ordered.  We watched some football and my Eagles finally won!

Weekly Update – 9/7/15

This week was pretty uneventful.  I didn’t get as many workouts in as I wanted, but I was glad I pushed myself to get to yoga class on Friday since I had missed my normal Monday and Wednesday yoga classes.

Monday

I talked about Monday in last week’s post!

Tuesday

I had a pretty exhausting day at work on Tuesday, but I forced myself to go to the gym anyway.

Warmup: Foam Roll

Conditioning: 1 mile on the elliptical

5 Rounds:

  1. ReACT Trainer – 1 minute
  2. 10 TRX Rows

Wednesday

Skipped yoga on account that it was my husband’s birthday! We went to Outback Steakhouse to celebrate 🙂

unnamed

Isn’t he cute with his rum drink?

Thursday

I was a little all over the place on Thursday.

Warmup: 1/2 mile on the elliptical

3 Rounds:

  1. 10 KB Goblet Squats
  2. Farmer’s Carry

3 Rounds:

  1. Kneeling Lunge Overhead press (5 each side)

Cool down/mobility:

  1. Walking RDLs
  2. Walking Lunges

Friday

I think I pushed it on Thursday, cause my poor glutes and hammys hated me! I decided that since I hadn’t been able to make it to yoga all week, Neve’s hatha yoga class on Friday night was just what I needed.  However, Jaye was subbing, so we ended up doing more flow.  I will say that Jaye really did attempt to make class a hatha class.  We did a lot of stretchy stuff, which was good, but was a challenge due to my soreness!

Saturday

Ouch, I woke up double sore on Saturday.  I had to get up at 6am, because we had a big application install at work. I worked about 8 hours, then my husband and I went to the ODU football game.  We ended up getting drenched at the tailgate because of some afternoon storms, then the storms came back right before halftime.  We decided it was time to pack up and go.

Sunday

On Sunday, we went to church in the morning, then came home and did all our grocery shopping.  We had an early dinner at my dad’s to celebrate his birthday and Michael’s birthday.  Afterward, we came back home and did our food prep for the week.

How was your week? How do you celebrate birthdays in your family?

Weekly Update – 8/17/15

Michael and I did fantastically this week – we were active 5 days this week!  We felt wonderful about how well we did! Hopefully that’ll encourage us to keep it up.

Monday

Yoga! Class was pretty good, but I have these terrible inability to hold a crescent lunge…and that was her favorite thing to do on Monday.  I opted for a kneeling modification, but still struggled with my balance.  Any yogis out there have any tips?!

Tuesday

I used the stick at home pretty extensively, so I didn’t foam roll.  I just jumped on the elliptical for a quick 10 minute warmup.

5 Rounds: 200 meter row, 10 KB Goblet squats

Then I did 5 minutes on the stair -stepper…. holy crap, that’s hard.  New cross training activity?

Wednesday

Yoga was a bit more restorative on Wednesday.  I think she could sense how many newcomers there were to class and made it a bit easier.  As a result I felt like I was one of the more advanced people in the class, which was pretty cool!

Thursday

I foam rolled and stretch awhile, then warmed up with 15 minutes on the elliptical.

5 Rounds:

  1. 1 minutes on the ReACT
  2. 10 TRX Rows

Friday

Friday was a rest day! We had a date night out and saw Vacation Movie.

Saturday

On Saturday, we slept in a little, then got straight to work.  We were having my parents over for dinner so we went grocery shopping, then Michael came back and did all of our normal food prep for the week, as well as prepared everything for dinner.  I got to work on laundry and all of the other cleaning chores.  Our house has not been so clutter free in a long time!

After we got all our work done, we headed to a riverfront neighborhood near us and went for a 2 mile walk.  The weather was great and it was nice to get out of the house.  We came back incredibly exhausted and crashed until my parents got there.  We had a great night and even got to watch my Philadelphia Eagles win their second preseason game!

Sunday

On Sunday, we had church, then we grabbed lunch and ran a few errands.  We stayed up in Newport News because we had a congregational meeting at 4pm.  We spent some time with some friends of ours until then.  The meeting was good, but also left us feeling conflicted about our future at our church.  Not that we don’t love it, its wonderful, but it is pretty far away, and they are talking about purchasing a building even further away. Lots to think about!

How was your week? Are you excited for football season to start up again?

Weekly Update – 8/10/15

Monday

I mowed the lawn after work and STUPIDLY didn’t put on bug spray.  I paid for it hardcore with several dozen bites on the back of my legs.  So itchy!

Tuesday

Warmup: 10 minutes elliptical

Workout:

  1. 1 minute ReACT trainer, 5 pushups (x5)
  2. 200 meter row, 10 KB swings (x5)

I’ve noticed when I do the ReACT that my hip flexors have weakened up quite a bit and I’ve lost some of my flexibility and mobility in my hips.  I need to go back to yoga – that will help loosen them up.

Wednesday

I finally went to yoga! Jaye was a little tough on us, but it was a good class. My hips are super tight.

Thursday

I spend a lot of time foam rolling and stretching.  For some reason, when I foam roll, I tend to neglect my IT band.  When I rolled them for the first time in ages, they hurt so bad!  Guess I need to work on that.

Did a pretty light workout:

  1. 10 minutes elliptical
  2. 3 rounds of :30 bird dog hold each side, then :30 plank
  3. 3 rounds of 10 TRX rows and 10 TRX push ups

Friday

After a crazy week at work, we just relaxed on Friday night.  We got some Mexican food with Michael’s brother and just had a relaxing evening!

Saturday

On Saturday, we woke up early and drove up toward DC to see my brother and his fiancé.  We had a mimosa tour of the house, went for a hike at Great Falls, went to a house warming party, and had homemade strawberry ice cream!  I don’t know how they have so much energy.  By Friday, I’m shot.

IMG_3575

Great Falls!

IMG_3574

Homemade strawberry ice cream!

Sunday

We slept in a little bit, then went to a cool restaurant called Ted’s Bulletin for brunch.  I had fabulous chicken and biscuits that I forgot to get a picture of because I devoured it.

Do you have siblings? Do you get to see them often?

Weekly Update – 7/20/15

Monday

We were still at the beach and it was wonderful.  We were there with my mom and stepdad, stepsister and her husband, and my nephew.  I love being able to spend time with him while he’s still so young.  It goes by so fast and I enjoyed every baby snuggle I could get.

IMG_3516

He looks terrified, but he love his nephew!

IMG_3518

Ahhhh beach life!

IMG_3519

This was about 2.5 seconds before he threw up.

IMG_3521

Someone love his Aunt!

Tuesday

We left the beach at around 11.  We stopped at Morris Farm on the way home to stock up with some yummy fresh fruit and veggies.  Once we got home, we had to do all the laundry and all that jazz.

Wednesday

We spent the night at home catching up on all the chores we didn’t do on the weekend!

Thursday

Well, at least I made it to the gym once!  I opted for just 15 minutes on the elliptical.

Workout:

1. ReACT for 1 min facing forward, 5 pushups

2. ReACT for 1 min facing left, 5 pushups

3. ReACT for 1 min facing right, 5 pushups

4. ReACT for 1 min facing backward, 5 pushups

5. ReACT for 1 min facing forward, 5 pushups

Friday

Michael and I had a date night and went to see the movie “Trainwreck.” There were times that it was a little on the dirty/vulgar side for me, but overall I enjoyed it.  It was nice to have a true date night.

Saturday

Saturday was a crazy busy day.  We had to drive up to Richmond so I could try on bridesmaid’s dresses for my brother’s wedding next year.  It took us 2 1/2 hrs to get there (normally takes about 90 minutes).  Once we got there, I was able to try on my dresses, get a sizing done, now I just have to decide what style I want.

After that, we went to a really cool diner call the Continental.  We had SO MUCH food. Here’s a super cool shot of my super yummy cobb salad!

unnamed

We headed to Tiffany’s to get my rings cleaned, then spent another 2.5 hours on the road to get home.  We made a few stops before going to my friend Alayna’s house in VA Beach.  She was home from CA visiting family, and we got  a chance to see her.

Sunday

After church, Michael and I headed down to see his parents and have lunch.  His mom gave me a 1000 piece puzzle to do, which is now my total obsession.

Do you go on a beach vacation in the summer? Have you seen the movie “Trainwreck”?

Weekly Update – 2/9/15

Monday

Yoga with Jaye.  She lost her dang gone mind in class.  She had us do very little warm-up before jumping right into it! There were a few new people in class and they were struggling a lot.  I was struggling.  I took a lot of modifications, cause it was a very difficult class. BUT, on the flip-side, I was able to have a good practice.

Tuesday

Tuesday was an interesting day.  I was supposed to workout with Danny but he was stuck in traffic.  Truth be told, I had been feeling crappy all day and wasn’t desiring to work out.  So when he texted and said he’d be late, I was honest and told him that I’d rather not workout.  And I didn’t.  I left the gym and went home.  It was a FANTASTIC rest day and I so needed it.

Do you ever have those days?

Wednesday

Yoga!  I love when I am able to make it twice a week.  Class was much simpler this time, but man, does that woman love chair!  Feel the burn!  I’ve found that my shoulders don’t have the mobility that I want them to have as I cannot fully express a lot of poses and have to take modifications.  Looks like I have some work to do in that regard!

Thursday

Worked out with Nicole who is a crazy woman and tried to kill my arms.

Two Rounds of the following:

1. 30 TRX squat jumps

2. 15 KB swings

3. Farmers carry for 50 yds (right side)

4. 30 TRX punch outs

5. 15 pushup to high pull

6. Farmer’s carry for 5o yds (left side)

7. 30 TRX rows

8. ReACT trainer for 1 minute

Friday

Michael took me out for Valentine’s Day 🙂 We went to a beautiful restaurant at the Oceanfront called Isle of Capri.  We had Caesar salad made at the table, we split a salmon dinner and split a Tiramisu for dessert.  He gave me a beautiful pair of pearl and diamond earrings.

Saturday

I woke up with a horrible headache on Saturday and ended up cancelling with Danny.  It was one of those headaches that hurt when you move.  Michael and I spent most of the day relaxing and running errands.  We babysat my sister later so that my dad and stepmom could go out for Valentine’s Day.

Sunday

Church in the morning.  In the afternoon, we were on our way to northern VA to see his Aunt Sally.  We went to IKEA in search for a wardrobe to solve all our our closet woes.  I could write an entire post on that experience.  Bottomline: I HATE IKEA.

Sorry this is so late (I normally post on Monday, and its Wednesday…. but better late than never I suppose.  How was your Valentine’s Day?
