Weekly Update – 10/10/2016

This was a pretty stressful week regarding work, but we also got to get out and enjoy time with friends and family!

Monday was covered in last week’s post.

Tuesday was a gorgeous fall day.  My husband usually goes for a walk/run in the morning before work.  On Tuesday he was gone for a whole 2 minutes before he came in and got on the treadmill.  Guess we aren’t used to the chill in the air yet!

Wednesday – Friday

I took a virtual class for work.  For any tech nerds out there, I’m trying to get ITIL Expert certified.  ITIL is basically best practices how to run an IT Department. I am already ITIL Foundation (aka beginner level) certified.  I was taking class one of FIVE that I’ll have to take (intermediate level).  Each class has an exam you have to pass afterward.  I didn’t realize when I signed up for the class that we didn’t take the exam the last day of class like other classes I’ve done.  I had to sign up to take it on Monday.

I had to work for about 5 hours on Saturday, some planned, some studying.  Michael and I attended a wedding for my trainers Nicole and Danny! It was a beautiful day up in Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore.  Such a beautiful wedding.

Selfies in the car!

Sometimes I clean up and wear makeup!

On Sunday, we checked out a local church (we commute to a church 30 minutes away). Since we are building a home and putting down roots here, we want to find a church home that is closer.  Afterward, we headed down to NC to see Michael’s parents.  Sunday night included more studying!

How was your week? Has the weather been where you are?

Weekly Update – 6/22/15

I really wanted to get to yoga, but sometimes the best laid plans fail.  Next week?

Workout with Nicole, and thank God it was inside.  Heat index of 110 degrees? No thanks.

Four Rounds:

1. 8 hex bar deadlifts

2. 4 reverse lunges with goblet squat hold

Three Rounds:

1. 10 hip hinges

2.20 overhead ball slams (14 lbs)

3. Jump squats with resistance at shins

We came home to 2 packages.  The first was a canvas from our photographer!!! It is beautiful and I can’t wait to figure out where to hang it! The second was the storage shelves we were waiting for in order to organize our the downstairs bathroom.  I put them together while watching Pretty Little Liars and I’m so relieved to have them done!

Newlywed night!  Michael and I have been super busy lately, so we decided we needed a night for just us…..well that didn’t happen.  I had to deal with some drama with my new eyeglasses.  I didn’t get home from that until after 7pm.  We cooked yummy food on the grill, then my mom stopped by.  We pretty much went to bed after she left.

Nicole night.  I was ridiculously sore from our workout on Tuesday (thanks to being lazy on my honeymoon).

Three Rounds:

1. 10 Y raises with resistance band

2. 10 inchworm pushups

Three Rounds:

1. 10 prone chest press

2. 10 kneeling overhead press

Two Rounds:

1. 10 overhead kneeling wall slams

2. 10 hip drops each side

Two Rounds (with the FIT class):

1. Run, 5 burpees

2. Run, 5 squat jumps

3. Run 5 pushups

4. Run

After we got home and showered up, we heated up some leftovers, then watched Extreme Weight Loss.  We love the show and are always so impressed at the drastic changes people are able to make in their lives.

Friday night was a chill night.  I had a terrible day at work.  My sister was in town, so I stopped over at my mom’s house to see them and my nephew, Weston!  I held him for about an hour…he’s such a sweet baby.  After I got home, Michael and I went to Mexican with his brother.  Yum!

OMG that face.

Saturday was a day filled with a ton of emotion.  We had the going away party for my trainer and his girlfriend.  All of their clients and the group exercise class came to one of the member’s house for the send off.  We had a lot of yummy breakfast, then every member and trainer had an opportunity to speak. I cried.  Didn’t think that I would, but I was just so overwhelmed with how much we loved them and how much we’ll miss them being in our lives every day.  I had been dreading this day for a long time.

Danny and Nicole shared a wonderful moment with us – Danny chose to propose to Nicole at this gathering.  I was sitting right next to her and it was the sweetest moment to witness.  I am so incredibly happy for them.  It was a perfect ending to a wonderful morning.

You can see the top of my head over Nicole’s head!

He did good!

Later that evening, Michael and I went to my cousin’s wedding.  Tyler is my stepdad’s nephew, and his new wife Erin is one of the sweetest people you’ve ever met!  The rain ruined a lot of the day, and they had to revert to their rain plan, but they handled it like champs!

My stepdad and his grandbaby Weston!

Wedding selfie!

After church, Michael and I headed down to VA Beach to do some people watching.  It was a gorgeous day out and it was nice to get out to the beach.  Afterward, we came home and did our weekly grocery shopping.  We got some fantastic salmon and cooked it up on our new grill.

How was your week? What’s the hottest temperature you will work out in? Have you ever witnessed a proposal?

Weekly Update – 1/19/15

We had the day off of work for the holiday.  I got a ton done around the house.  We aren’t moving Michael’s stuff in until April, but I figured I might as well clean up as much as I can now.  I have just an absurd amount of stuff.

While I probably shouldn’t have, I skipped yoga.

Woke up to a fun surprise on Tuesday AM. I’ve had issues with squirrels getting in my attic….the pains of living in a townhome with connected units.  I worked from home while I waited for the exterminator to come out and try to figure out a solution to get them out and get rid of them for good.  I haven’t had issues in awhile, but some dumb squirrel managed to get itself stuck in there.

Had a terrible workout with Danny.  And by terrible, I mean I felt terrible during it. It was just a really rough workout.  No rest between the following:

1. SA squat and press – right arm (:30)

2. SA KB swing – right arm (:30)

3. SA RDL – right arm (:30)

4. SA squat and press – left arm (:30)

5. SA KB swing – left arm (:30)

6. SA RDL – left arm (:30)

7. Resistance band side steps – 25 yds

Due to the single sided movement we were doing, this was really tough on my back (scoliosis).  It is necessary for us to work on getting each of my sides of my back to develop muscle equally.  Its difficult when you do double sided movement because then one side has the opportunity to compensate for the other.

I had practice for worship team at church, so I was unable to go to yoga.  I’m really hating that I’m missing yoga class so much.

First Round (4x):

1. 12 squat and press

2. 6 resistance band bird dogs (each side)

3. Speed walk around the gym

Second Round (2x):

1. Side lunge w/medicine ball raise (6 each side)

2. 1 minute leg raises

Rest day!

Workout with Danny.  We did a similar workout to last Saturday.

Three Rounds:

1. High Pull to Goblet Squat (10)

2. Box step up, step down w/reverse lunge (5 each side)

3. Jump Rope 2 minutes

Afterwards, Michael and I ran some errands, then we made a stop at Redbox.  We picked up the movie “Maze Runner.”  Highly recommend it – we loved it!  It is intense and keeps you on edge though.  We experimented a little with our new Ninja mixer and made some fruit smoothies.  Later that night, we had a couples shower to go to for a good friend of mine (who will also be making our wedding cake!)

Church in the morning.  We had lunch at a nice little coffeehouse called Aromas.  After lunch, we had our first premarital counseling session with our pastor and his wife.

How were your workouts this week? Ever been to a couples shower?

(Lack of) Motivation & Losing a Trainer

Prepare thy-selves for a pity party. I’m really good at them!

I’ve become painfully aware of the fact that I haven’t posted much outside of my weekly updates recently.  I’ve been in a funk with my workouts & my motivation, and as a result, I don’t have a lot to talk about.

I have Shamrock in two months and I’m not on any type of running schedule.  I’m way behind and I know it.  Sometimes that motivates me, but right now, its seeming to paralyze me.  My workouts have been hard and frustrating (more so than they should be).

I’m quite sure that I’m in this funk due to the weather and the general cold and yuckiness.  The other thing is that my trainer is going to leave me.  (Throws pity party for myself) Danny and I have been working together for two years.  He’s not just my trainer, he’s my friend.  He motivates me, teaches me, listens to me, counsels me, frustrates me, encourages me….and pretty soon, that’s going to be gone.  He’s moving on to better and brighter things after graduating college in the spring.  I know, I know, I’m spending a lot of time worrying about what is going to happen months from now.  I’m thrilled at what he is going to go out and accomplish.  He has to much to teach, so much to bring to the world….and he is going to flourish.  I’m just upset at my personal loss.  I realize that is selfish of me, but hey…I’m human.

don't leave

This is all of Danny’s clients…

Any motivational quotes for me? Have you ever had a trainer/coach leave you?

Weekly Update – 8/4

Can you believe it is AUGUST already?  And here in VA, we have had unseasonably cool weather.

Monday Morning: Got up early for a 2.5 walk/run on the treadmill.

Monday Night: Hatha yoga with Sue. She made class much harder this week since last Monday was “easy.” Did a lot of hip openers again, which I love.  My hamstrings were rather tight which lent to some difficulty, but nothing too bad.

Woke up with some discomfort in my left heel.  I’m going to switch to running in my new shoes and see if that alleviates anything.  I think the shoes I’m wearing have bit the dust.

Danny night. Felt pretty good, super sweaty.  I suck at jump roping!

Three Rounds:

1. Elevated split squat kettle bell press (reverse grip) – 12 each side

2. Hamstring rope pull

3. Jump Rope for 3 minutes

Wednesday Morning:  2.25 miles walk/run on the treadmill.

Wednesday Night: Vinyasa yoga with Sue.  Class was pretty difficult.  I FINALLY got Half Moon and was able to hold it for at least 10 seconds!  It’s easier on one side than the other, but eventually I’ll even out.

Side Note: My right shoulder was abnormally sore from Tuesday’s workout and made doing anything where I put my hands behind my back nearly impossible.

Danny night.  My shoulder was really bothering me all day on Thursday, so we basically did a rehab day.  Danny diagnosed it as anterior deltoid soreness; mostly cause my shoulders are super tight due to my scoliosis.

Round One (2x):

1. Resistance Band pull forward (20 sec hold each side)

2. Resistance Band pull down (20 sec hold each side)

Round Two (2x):

1. 10 “power rangers” each side

2. 5 hip hinges

3. 1o resistance band side steps

4. 5 hip hinges

5. 10 resistance band side steps

My shoulder felt significantly better after that, but I suspect it might be a few days before it feels 100%.

Friday Morning: Walk 1.75 miles on the treadmill.

Friday Night:  Rest night, YAY.

Danny and I worked out in the outside area.  He had me working out with Nicole (another trainer).  We had to stick together and not move on to the next exercise until we were both done.  It was a pretty tough workout. Nicole is pretty hard to keep up with – she’s a machine!

1. 25 single arm resistance band press (each side)

2. Run 100 meters

3. 25 single arm dumb bell cleans (10 lbs) each side

4. Run 200 meters

5. 25 single arm suitcase dead lift with 20 lb kettle bell (each side)

6. Run 300 meters

7. 50 resistance band back rows

8. Run 100 meters

9. 50 goblet squats with 30 lb dumb bell

10. Run 200 meters

11. 50 kettle bell swings with 20 lb kettle bell

12. Run 300 meters

Rest day.  Got to go down to Elizabeth City to see Michael’s parents, which is always nice.  Got my grocery shopping done for the week then totally vegged out for the rest of the night.  I think I babied my shoulder on Saturday and my neck was bothering me a bit.  Danny is trying to kill me! 🙂
