Weekly Update – 4/3/2017

This wasn’t a great workout week, but it was a really nice week otherwise.  I had some great quality time with Michael and got out of the house and had a blast.

Monday

Decided that since it was warmer weather out, we’d get in 2 miles outside.  We walked around my mom’s neighborhood (its a mile around).

Tuesday

Got in 2 miles on the treadmill.

Wednesday

I was exhausted from a long day on Wednesday and wasn’t feeling well, so I decided to skip yoga.

Thursday

We had our date night on Thursday and watched a movie on Netflix.

Friday

We had a showing on Friday night, so we got out of the house and went to Mexican.

Saturday

On Saturday, we had to be out of the house for a few showings, so we decided to drive up to Richmond and get our rings cleaned and get some lunch.  We found a cool place called Supper! and had some great salads.

We came home in the early afternoon, and then went out to Mermaid Winery with some friends and had a great night.

Sunday

After church on Sunday, we grabbed some lunch and did our grocery shopping.  We stopped by the house to measure for a fridge and got to see the progress.  We then went to Home Depot and bought said fridge!

We also had to file a police report because someone decided to shoot a BB gun through my taillight.

How was your week? Do you like going to wineries?

Weekly Update -2/27/2017

This week was a bit better for workouts.  I pushed myself to try to get back into strength training.  The week was extremely long for me; seemed like an eternity.  The massive swings in the weather didn’t help!

Monday

Michael was traveling for a work trip.  I desperately needed a haircut and had scheduled one for when he’d be away.  I go through phases where I let my hair grow long, then I very suddenly feel the need to cut it, and act on it quickly!

My hair feels so much healthier and lighter with about 4-5 inches gone.

Tuesday

I decided to workout at home. Michael was out of town, and working out at home takes up less time than driving to the gym.  I hit the treadmill for 1.5 miles in my new shoes. Then I did 3 rounds of the following:

  1. 10 bodyweight squats
  2. :30 plank
  3. 10 crunches*

*First round were normal crunches, next round was legs at 90 angle, next was legs up with ankles crossed.

I remembered that I had intended to do lunges in that mix, so I added 10 on each side to the last round.

I’ve not done any strength training in a long time.  I really miss it, but its REALLY hard to get back into it.  I’m going to make it my goal to start small (as evidenced by the simplicity of this workout), but I know I need to do it and fight through the hard part.

Wednesday

Wednesday during the day was beautiful in terms of temperature.  We have been in the 70s and 80s all week.  We were supposed to get severe storms on Wednesday night, so I debated not attending yoga.  However, I decided to go, and I didn’t regret it.  I had some soreness from the squats I did on Tuesday, and class helped stretch me out.  We did a lot of hip openers, which was fantastic.

Michael was supposed to be home on Wednesday night, but because of the severe weather, his flight was cancelled.

Thursday

Michael finally made it home!  Thursday night is date night, and I was especially glad for it, considering he’d been gone for a few days.  The soreness from Tuesday’s workout and yoga was setting in and I was glad for a day off.

Friday

On Friday, we had a night in and had Jersey Mike’s and watched a movie on Netflix.  It started getting really cold for the weekend, so it was nice just to spend the night in.

Saturday

On Saturday, I got up and got 2 miles in on the treadmill, while Michael got his hair cut.  We got our showers and relaxed for a little while.  Michael had sushi with his brother and went to run errands, and I stayed home and relaxed and cleaned up some around the house.  We went out to Mexican later – and then watched HGTV all night.

Sunday

On Sunday, we attended the new church we’ve been visiting, then had lunch with the pastor, his wife, and another couple.  We’ve really felt welcomed by them, and it was nice to get to know them all a little better.  After church we came stopped by the new house and took some pictures, then headed home where I did all the laundry and Michael meal prepped for the week.  We had a nice relaxing evening.

How was your week? Do you get your hair cut regularly, or do you let it grow and cut it all off like I do?

Weekly Update – 2/6/2017

While this wasn’t a fantastic week for working out, I felt like I did a lot better with work/life balance and making sure to practice self-care. I’ve found it to be really important to listen to my body recently.

Monday

On Monday, I planned a rest day due to having the race the day before.  I normally take a rest day on Sunday, but decided to shift everything over.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, we hit up the gym and I got a quick 2 miles in on the treadmill.  We planned for a bit longer at the gym, but ran into some new house issues and had to go meet with the builder.

Wednesday

I was so incredibly exhausted on Wednesday.  Its normally yoga day for me, but I couldn’t even think about anything other than a giant nap all afternoon.  I came home and relaxed all night and went to bed really early.

Thursday

We had our normal date night on Thursday night.  We made the mistake of  having Arby’s for dinner and regretted it, as both of us ended up with upset stomachs.  Not that we needed to be told that fast food is bad for you…

Friday

On Friday, we had another night at home.  We’ve become quite the homebodies.  We watched a weird movie on Netflix (what other kind is there?)

Saturday

On Saturday we got up and went to the gym.  I got in 2 miles on the treadmill. We spend the rest of the day with my mom and stepdad.  We walked through the new house, spent some time enjoying the nice weather, and went out to dinner.  I had the best Caesar salad that made my breath smell like garlic through Sunday!

Sunday

On Sunday we got to sleep in a little bit, as we were trying out a new church that didn’t start until 11.  After church, we came home and did a bunch of chores.  We even finally cleaned the cars.  Since the weather was unseasonably warm (set a new record at 81 degrees!), we decided to go for a 2 mile walk around my mom’s neighborhood and stopped at Starbucks for a nice cold iced coffee.

How was your weekend? Did you have warmer weather this weekend like we did in VA?

Weekly Update – 1/30/2017

This week was a pretty good one.  I tried to make some time to de-stress and reduce my anxiety, as I’ve had a few anxiety attacks at work recently.  Working out consistently has been good, but I’m trying hard to find balance throughout everything in my life.

Monday

Michael came home around 2 am Monday morning.  I quietly snuck off to work, so I didn’t get to see him until I came home from work.  I skipped a workout so that we could catch up and spend some quality time together.

Tuesday

Hit the gym for 2 miles on the treadmill.  My plantar fasciitis said “hello” again after the workout.  Guess I need to get hardcore about PT again.

Wednesday

Yoga was so amazing and yet so hard.  We focused on hip openers and lengthening our hamstring and calves.  Ouch. But, totally needed it.

Thursday

Date night with my hubby. We went to Red Robin and had a nice evening.

Friday

We had Mexican food with my brother in law.  Always a favorite of mine!

Saturday

Since I had a 5k on Sunday, and they last second cancelled race day pickup, I had to drive to a neighboring city to pick up my race packet. Packet pickup went well, then we went to Whole Foods and had an omelet.

We came home, I got ready for the baby shower I was attending, and Michael went to hang out with his brother. The shower was for the wife of a childhood friend of mine.  She’s sweet and their baby boy is so loved already!

We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and watching COPS.

Sunday

Game Day 5k! Recap to come. After the race, I came home, got a shower, and ate the sub I had picked up on the way home.  Michael ended up working (an emergency came up), so I watched Finding Dory on Netflix (LOVED IT).  We had made a garlic parmesan chicken dish in the crock pot, so we had that as we watched the Super Bowl.

We went to bed early and missed all the excitement in the game, but I didn’t really care who won, so I wasn’t that upset 🙂

How was your weekend? Did you enjoy the Super Bowl?

Weekly Update – 3/21/16

I didn’t intentionally set out to not workout this week.  I had planned on 2 rest days following my half marathon, but nothing beyond that. The rest of my days off were purely by coincidence and a product of the craziness of life right now.

Monday

First day after my half marathon.  I probably feel after a half marathon like most people do after a marathon.  I’m a wuss!  Since the weather was so nasty on race day, I definitely had a weird shoulder posture going on (I guess trying to stay warm), so my upper back hurt a LOT on Monday.  I wore my compression sleeves most of the day at work which helped my tight calves.  My feet still hurt a lot and were a little swollen.  My blisters…well, I don’t know if I can let them run their course.  Might have to pop them!

I did make sure to move around a lot, but no workout for this girl.  Would have done way more harm than good.

Tuesday

Opted for no workout again on Tuesday.  My feet were still swollen, and my back was still pretty sore.

Wednesday

I had to work late on Wednesday, which meant I couldn’t make yoga on time.  I did some light foam rolling and stretching, which felt nice, but still no workout.

Thursday

Ugh, I was planning on going to the gym on Thursday.  But I had to work late, then there was a massive accident on the way home.  I didn’t get home till past dinner time. Probably not a bad thing to rest so much?

Friday

On Friday, we had some family over for dinner. It was a great time!  My dad is a nurse and he popped my blood blister for me.  It wasn’t making any progress at all healing, so he said it would be best to pop it.  I’m not squeamish, but even that got to me a bit!

Saturday

Saturday was a really lazy day.  Much needed. We did some light chores, but mostly were really lazy!  We did go to the mall to find some shoes I need to wear as a bridesmaid, so we did get a nice walk in as we walked around the entire mall.

Sunday

Easter Sunday!  We enjoyed church with our church family!  Afterward, we grabbed a quick lunch, then settled in for a nice day of Netflix marathoning and laziness!

I got some GREAT news on Sunday.  I have a friend name Stephanie who has been waiting for her 2nd heart transplant for about 2 years now. She received her first heart over 20 years ago. She received a heart on Sunday and is making a great recovery so far.  Please keep her in your thoughts over the next week or so, as well as the family of the donor.  Becoming an organ donor is such a personal, difficult choice, but one that can bring such joy and life to others.  Their family is grieving the lost of a love one, while we are delighting in a second chance for Stephanie.

If you have any questions about organ donation, please read about it here.  I can understand the reasons why you may not want to become an organ donor, and that is ok! I’m not criticizing your choice – it is such a deeply personal choice.

Do you ever have an unplanned week off? How was your Easter weekend? Are you an organ donor? I’d love to hear why/why not!

Weekly Update – 1/18/16

Despite the really bad weather, I think I did a pretty decent job at getting to the gym. I know a lot of people struggle to get motivated in the winter, and I don’t feel like that’s been much of a problem for me, which is great.

Monday

I covered Monday in last week’s post.

Tuesday

After a long weekend away, it was hard to get back to the grind.  We went to the gym and I did a 5k on the treadmill.  I struggled with some tightness in my calves. Hopefully that goes away!

Wednesday

Yoga was particularly hard on Wednesday after skipping it for a week.  Jaye was about 20 minutes late to class, which was ok, things happen. But then she tried to extend class 20 minutes, which I wasn’t too fond of.  Since class was much shorter, it felt strange, it felt rushed, and I didn’t have a lot of focus.

Thursday

It was really hard to be motivated to go to the gym with the impending doom of the weekend.  We are facing a massive snow/rain storm. Plus, it was one of those days that life happens and sometimes you just don’t make it to the gym.

Friday

On Friday, work let us go at 2pm since the snow was coming down pretty hard.  I took advantage of being home early, and I got in 3 miles on the treadmill at home.

Saturday

On Saturday we woke up to sleet.  We decided to hit the gym before it got bad and changed back over to snow.  Got a really long good foam roll session in before doing 2 miles on the treadmill.  Michael and his brother went out to lunch and out and about, while I stayed at home and spent some quality time with Netflix while I watched the snow fall.  We only got a few inches, not near the craziness some others got! My brother got about 2 feet just outside of DC!

Sunday

On Sunday, I was supposed to run the FreezerBurn 5k, but they postponed it due to the weather until next Saturday.  Church was also cancelled.  Michael and I slept in and took our time getting up and ready for the day. We drove out to the other side of our city to see some houses by a builder we like that will be building in our area this year.  We ran all of our normal Sunday errands…grocery store and cooking.

Were you part of the wintry mess this weekend? Have you been able to stay motivated this winter?

Weekly Update – 11/9/15

I only made it to yoga this week, but that’s ok. I’ve seemed to have a lot of those kinds of weeks lately, which I think is ok.  I know I don’t talk about work a lot, but its been a really stressful time.  That’s definitely affected my every day life, and therefore my workouts.  I’m very pleased when I am able to at least get to yoga every week!

Monday

Yoga with Jaye.  It was a harder class than normal.  I find it very difficult to hold lunge positions (runner’s lunge, crescent lunge, etc) due to my Plantar Fasciitis.  My arches of my feet don’t like it.  So I modify to kneeling lunge, but then its hard to transition through positions.

I really love yoga and practice for many reasons.  Strength and flexibility is certainly a desirable by-product, and I don’t feel like I’m making progress in that area.  That is going to be a focus of mine over the next few weeks.

Tuesday

I took a half vacation day on Tuesday.  I needed the mental break.  It was rainy and nasty outside, so I literally sat on the couch for the remainder of the day and watched TV.  No regrets.

Wednesday

Work was closed for Veteran’s Day.  I took advantage of Michael being gone on a little day trip and I got some Christmas shopping done.

Had a small class at yoga on Wednesday night, which was nice.

Thursday

Thursday was insane at work.  Michael and I had to work late, then we had to go to the airport to pick up my mom and stepdad.  It was a late night and I crashed hard.

Friday

On Friday night, we ordered in Chinese food from one of my favorite local places and watched a movie on Netflix called “The Cobbler.”  Its got Adam Sandler in it.  Its pretty fantastic.

Saturday

On Saturday, we got up and headed to the tailgate before the ODU game.  We only ended up staying until halftime because the sun went away behind the stadium and I got so cold.  We ended up going to MacArthur mall and walked around and did some Christmas shopping.

Sunday

After church on Sunday, we got our grocery shopping and such done, then we went to my mom’s house for a get together.  Some old neighbors were in town and we got together with them and some of mom’s current neighbors.  It was a great time!

How was your week? Have you started Christmas shopping yet?
