Weekly Update – 11/30/15

This is a day late, but that’s how it goes sometimes!  I had a pretty decent week overall, and did lots of Christmas fun this past weekend!

Monday

Yoga with Jaye.  She said at the beginning of class that it was going to be more restorative.  I beg to differ.  Class was good though.  My chaturangas are getting better, which make me happy.

Tuesday

Warmup: Foam Roll

Conditioning: 1 mile on the elliptical, keeping heart rate under 150

Three Rounds:

  1. 10 KB High Pulls
  2. 20 Walking Lunges

Wednesday

I’m already sore from Tuesday night’s workout.  Yoga was actually restorative this time! We did a lot of work with blocks and straps.

Thursday

Major DOMS from Tuesday’s workout.  I decided to not push my already mad muscles, and I did a nice 2 miles on the elliptical, keeping my heart rate under 150.

Friday

Its been a tough week at work.  Michael and I got some takeout (or takeaway, as the british say), and we watched a movie.

Saturday

I had to work Saturday morning for a few hours, then I headed to the craft show at the local high school with my mom.  Its one of my favorite parts of the holiday season because I get to see MomLOLZ.

I only purchased a few things.  Mom and I ran some other errands and even had lunch at JoJacks!  I got some wrapping done when I got home.  Michael and I had another nice night in with a movie.

Sunday

I had worship team at church on Sunday, which meant an early day.  After church, we headed home for me to do chores and Michael to do the grocery shopping and cooking.

Weekly Update – 10/5/15

This was a pretty decent week, nothing too crazy out of the ordinary.  Its been nice to have some relaxing weekends lately, cause work has been a bit stressful.

Monday

Body Flow with Jamie.  I think this is the last week until Jaye comes back and we start doing yoga again.  I’m kind of getting used to Body Flow, its not too bad!

Tuesday

Warmup: Foam Roll

Conditioning: 10 minutes on elliptical

Three Rounds:

  1. 500 Meter Row
  2. 10 KB Goblet Squats (20 lbs)

Wednesday

Stretch and Strengthen class.  I am starting to enjoy this class as well, and its the last week before Jaye returns.  This class was a little more relaxed than normal – I actually wanted to do more core work this class and she didn’t do any.

Thursday

It was such a nice day on Thursday, I couldn’t bring myself to go to the gym.  Michael and I went for a walk around the neighborhood instead.  It was just over 1.5 miles, but it was really nice just to enjoy the cooler weather.

Friday

Just a chill night.  Michael and I just stayed in and watched a movie.

Saturday

On Saturday, Michael was a trooper.  I got up and mowed the lawn and cleaned up the flowerbeds, while he went to get a haircut.  As I write that sentence, it seems very backward. Shouldn’t I be the one getting a haircut and him doing the lawn? 🙂  Then he came back, we both got ourselves showered and ready for the day, then we headed off to get some errands done.  We took stuff to donate (and get it OUT of the house).  Then we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and finished off our registry.  After that, we made a dreaded Walmart trip to get some essentials. It was a busy day!

Sunday

On Sunday, we went to church, lunch, then made a visit to the other side of the city to look a builder’s model home.  We are hoping and dreaming for a future home and we wanted to check out their work.  They are just starting to clear land for a development right down the street from us, so we are getting excited!

Weekly Update – 9/28/15

I was looking forward to the Crawlin Crab 5k, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the weather.  It was a great week to catch up from life and de-stress.

Monday

Body Flow night! I’m actually starting to like this class a lot.  I like doing different sections to music.  Although the ab track is NOT my favorite.  I can’t believe I ever used to take a 30 min abs class.  Maybe I need to get back to that….

Tuesday

Everything on Tuesday worked against me getting to the gym.  I ended up skipping.

Wednesday

The stretch and strengthen class is starting to grow on me, but I had to go to worship team practice.  My church is celebrating 9 years on Sunday – so we wanted to make sure to get a little extra practice time in.

Thursday

Warm up: Foam Roll

Heart Rate Training: Elliptical for 1/2 mile, keeping heart rate under 150

5 Rounds:

  1. 1 minute on the ReACT trainer
  2. 10 KB high pulls
  3. 5 KB swings

On Thursday, I found out that the Crawlin Crab race weekend had been postponed by 2 weeks due to the nor’easter we’d been having, as well as the impending doom of Hurricane Joaquin!

Friday

On Friday night, we went to get some Mexican food with Michael’s brother, and just had a relaxing evening.

Saturday

Crawlin Crab was cancelled, so I took advantage of it and slept in like a champ!  We got some laundry and other chores done, but mostly we just hung around the house watching movies and being lazy!

Sunday

Sunday was our 9 year celebration of our church’s existence.  It was a great service and wonderful celebration.  We came home, did more chores, got the grocery shopping done for the week, and watched our Eagles lose. I also lost in fantasy football 😦  We also had a little adventure with the stove….Michael was cooking and burnt all our vegetables into the pan.  We think the one burner heats up a lot more than the others for some reason.  While I know there are things you can do to try to clean it…yeahhhh we are a bit lazy. It was so bad we had to throw the pot out – there was no saving it.

Weekly Update – 8/31/15

I found that I’m a much happier person when I workout more consistently.  Yoga has been helping me with my mobility, which makes my other workouts much more productive.

Monday

Yoga was particularly difficult for me on Monday night. She was doing a lot of hip openers that just hurt too much.  I opted for a LOT of child’s pose this class!  But it was great to see my yoga buddies.  I always miss them on Wednesday nights.

Tuesday

Warmup: Foam Roll

Conditioning: 1 mile on the elliptical, keeping my heart rate under 150.  (Much harder than it sounds for me!)

3 Rounds:

  1. Resistance band lateral squats
  2. 5 single leg RDLs (each side)

Wednesday

Yoga was nice and restorative on Wednesday.  When we do standing balancing positions, she normally does them as separate exercises, but this time she did a flow.  It was very different and very difficult.  I like that even with a more restorative class, she throws in a few new challenges!

Thursday

Warmup: 1 mile on the elliptical, keeping my heart rate under 150

5 Rounds:

  1. 200 Meter Row
  2. 10 KB Goblet Squats (20lbs)

Friday

Friday night was just a relaxing night at home.

Saturday – Sunday

On Saturday morning, we got up to drive to Baltimore.  We were meeting Michael’s cousins at Horseshoe Casino.  We stayed there for the weekend.  We were practicing some new Blackjack strategies and ended up making about $150.  Not too shabby!

Bonus Day: Monday

On Monday, we headed back from the casino.  We stopped to see Michael’s Aunt Sally on the way home.  It’s always good to see her. We got to meeting his cousin’s new baby as well!

Weekly Update – 8/17/15

Michael and I did fantastically this week – we were active 5 days this week!  We felt wonderful about how well we did! Hopefully that’ll encourage us to keep it up.

Monday

Yoga! Class was pretty good, but I have these terrible inability to hold a crescent lunge…and that was her favorite thing to do on Monday.  I opted for a kneeling modification, but still struggled with my balance.  Any yogis out there have any tips?!

Tuesday

I used the stick at home pretty extensively, so I didn’t foam roll.  I just jumped on the elliptical for a quick 10 minute warmup.

5 Rounds: 200 meter row, 10 KB Goblet squats

Then I did 5 minutes on the stair -stepper…. holy crap, that’s hard.  New cross training activity?

Wednesday

Yoga was a bit more restorative on Wednesday.  I think she could sense how many newcomers there were to class and made it a bit easier.  As a result I felt like I was one of the more advanced people in the class, which was pretty cool!

Thursday

I foam rolled and stretch awhile, then warmed up with 15 minutes on the elliptical.

5 Rounds:

  1. 1 minutes on the ReACT
  2. 10 TRX Rows

Friday

Friday was a rest day! We had a date night out and saw Vacation Movie.

Saturday

On Saturday, we slept in a little, then got straight to work.  We were having my parents over for dinner so we went grocery shopping, then Michael came back and did all of our normal food prep for the week, as well as prepared everything for dinner.  I got to work on laundry and all of the other cleaning chores.  Our house has not been so clutter free in a long time!

After we got all our work done, we headed to a riverfront neighborhood near us and went for a 2 mile walk.  The weather was great and it was nice to get out of the house.  We came back incredibly exhausted and crashed until my parents got there.  We had a great night and even got to watch my Philadelphia Eagles win their second preseason game!

Sunday

On Sunday, we had church, then we grabbed lunch and ran a few errands.  We stayed up in Newport News because we had a congregational meeting at 4pm.  We spent some time with some friends of ours until then.  The meeting was good, but also left us feeling conflicted about our future at our church.  Not that we don’t love it, its wonderful, but it is pretty far away, and they are talking about purchasing a building even further away. Lots to think about!

Weekly Update 7/27/15 + Gambling

This week, I apparently had an obsession with doing 5 rounds of everything….

Monday

I really need/want to get back to yoga, but Mondays are so hard!  I came home and did some chores around the house.  I also worked on my 1000 piece puzzle….because I’m an old woman.

Tuesday

I felt pretty decent about Tuesday’s workout.  Michael’s willingness to stay longer at the gym has been helpful…then I’m not feeling guilty about him being done his workout and me still wanting to workout longer.

Warmup: foam roll and then 15 minutes on the elliptical

Workout: 200 meter row then 10 KB swings (repeat for a total of 5 times)

 

Wednesday

Wednesday night I was an old lady again and worked on my puzzle.

Thursday

I worked remotely from home on Thursday, so it was super hard to get motivated to go to the gym.  Dragged my butt up there anyway.

Warm-up: 1 mile on the elliptical, row 500 meters

5 Rounds:

1. 10 TRX rows

2. 10 TRX pushups

3. 10 bodyweight squats

Cool down: row 500 meters

 

Friday

Friday night we left for Dover for a fun gambling weekend – my first time ever in a casino!  I wanted to try out the slot machines.  I won $21 on the second pull! We stayed up until about midnight playing Blackjack and Craps.  I won on Blackjack, but Michael lost some on craps.  Its a hard game to figure out!

Saturday

On Saturday, we drove to Baltimore to go to a casino up there.  We lost some at Blackjack in the early afternoon.  Michael’s cousin came and joined us, and we started making money back at Blackjack.  We had a lot of fun getting to see her!

Sunday

On Sunday, we headed home.  It took us quite awhile to get back, but we got to stop at the Continental diner again for lunch, so that was a huge plus!

Weekly Update – 5/11/15 – Wedding Stuff Galore!

We are getting so close to wedding time and I’m so excited! We got this sweet note and gift from our photographer this week!

Monday

Total rest/lazy day.  I didn’t even legitimately get anything done around the house.  I did a little wedding stuff, but I mostly sat on my butt.  And I’m totally ok with that.

Tuesday

Got a good workout in with Danny outside in the humidity!

Our co-workers threw us the sweetest “Tiffany’s” themed shower!  We are blessed with the most amazing people in our lives!

Thursday

My plantar fasciitis was really flared up on Thursday. Workout with Danny outside – and the weather was amazing!  After a dynamic warmup, we did 3 rounds of the following:

1. 21 KB resistance band swings

2. 14 overhead resistance band squats

3. 7 (each side) overhead ball slams

After I got back from my workout with him, I went out and mowed the lawn for my second workout of the day.   It had gotten a little out of control!  But! I discovered that my beautiful roses are in full bloom!

Saturday

Danny had a training thing somewhere (I listen so well, don’t I?) so he cancelled with me for Saturday AM.  Boy, did I enjoy sleeping in!  I got a late start to the day because of it, but it was so worth it.  I got up and got started on Operation Clean the Guest Room.  The guest room has become a storage place for all of our moving junk and all our gifts from showers.  I put together a few lamps and found homes for many things!  Its still pretty full, but at least its organized mess!

Michael had his bachelor party on Saturday night, so my brother and his fiance came into town.  I got to hang out with her while the boys played.  We had fun…got some wedding stuff done and did a little shopping!

Sunday

I had worship team in the morning and then headed over to nurse Michael’s hangover.  We spent some of the day going over wedding stuff and got our grocery shopping done!

Weekly Update – 5/4/15

This was one of those weeks that things just kind of fell apart.  There was so much going on, and Michael was gone, and I was just so ready for it to be over! I will be so glad when the wedding is done and we can settle into some sort of routine.

Monday

I had a dentist appointment to get my free whitening kit for my teeth for the wedding!  After work, I had many errands to run. I swear I’m never getting to yoga again.  My iPad is possessed…no seriously, there is something majorly wrong with it.  I spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support and really got nowhere except I’m screwed cause its out of warranty.  New ipad, here I come!  I managed to get all my thank yous done from my shower on Sunday and got some stuff done around the house, so it was not completely unproductive!

Tuesday

Yay – I get to actually workout!  This was actually a pretty difficult workout, even though it may not look like it. I was supposed to do 5 rounds, but I only made it 4 rounds.  My back got pretty agitated by something I was doing.  I did the first 3 rounds with 12 lb KBs, then dropped down to 10 lb KBs for the 4th round.  Found out later that my trainer only expected that I’d complete 3 rounds.  Looks like I surpassed expectations!

1. KB (double) Thrusters x20

2. KB (double) swings x20

3. KB (double) RDL’s x10 each side

4. KB (double) Reverse Lunge x10 each side

5. Pushups x5

6. Jump Rope (30 sec)

After I got home, I got to play with my new iPad. I decided to bite the bullet and just get a new one.  Target had a deal that you got a $50 gift card with the purchase of an iPad mini 3 (I had a mini before).  Its so wonderful to have a device that works!

Wednesday

I ended up having a crazier day than expected.  My right eye was irritated when I took my contacts out on Tuesday night.  When I woke up Wednesday morning, it did not want me to put the contact it.  I made an emergency appt at my eye doctor, and I’m so glad I did!  Apparently I have a corneal abrasion.  Rather than a scratch like most people get, I have two small holes.  He removed some crystallized deposits from my cornea (probably from something getting trapped under my contacts).  So I’m on eyedrops and I have to wear my glasses for a few days.

Thursday

Yay – final dress fitting day!!!!!!! I’m obsessed with my dress.  It’s amazing. It was nice to see everything put together.  So glad that its finally done, all we do is have to pick it up the week of the wedding!

Friday

On Friday I had to take my car to the shop for an oil change and inspection.  I ended up with a few hundred dollars in repairs – which I wasn’t entirely surprised by as the car is 6 years old and only had minor maintenance work, but I wasn’t necessarily excited about. After I picked it up, I ran some errands and then I had dinner with some of my extended family that was in town for my stepsister’s baby shower.

Saturday

Slept in as much as possible before my workout with Danny.  Got in a nice, easy workout since I had to wear my stupid glasses.  Is it just me, or is it hard to workout in glasses?

After that, I headed home and got ready for my stepsister’s baby shower.  It was great to celebrate the impending coming of her little boy.  He’s due 10 days after our wedding, so I hope she can make it!  Michael FINALLY came home from Chicago and I got to spend some time with him.

Sunday

Had worship team Sunday at church.  Then we went to grab a quick lunch before headed down to Elizabeth City to see Michael’s mom for mother’s day.  After that, we saw my stepmom, then finally my mom.  It was a long day of visiting!

Weekly Update – 3/30/15 + Moving!

Monday

I had to work late and skipped yoga.  Also, after being gone all weekend, I had laundry to do…and I had to get my house in order.  This is becoming a regular thing….Mondays are days for me to catch up on life.

Tuesday

I had to cancel with Danny because I went for my second dress fitting!!!!  Then momma and I did a bit of shopping and had dinner at Baker’s Crust…yum!

Wednesday

I had church practice on Wednesday.  Since Sunday is Easter, the worship team felt like we should be a little more prepared 🙂 I took advantage of my time and had dinner with my former roomie/bridesmaid Erin. She’s a cross-fitter, so it was interesting to hear about all her workouts.  That girl is a beast and is setting PRs for lifting all the time. Erin’s actually has done a lot of running in the past (though that’s not a focus for her right now) and has run a sub-2hr half like its nothing!

Talking about working out is almost like working out….right?

Thursday

Finally! Back at the gym.  Bad Lauren for being gone for a week.  I worked out with Nicole and she kicked my butt as usual. We did two rounds of the following:

1. 10 hex bar deadlifts

2. 20 battle rope incline pull ups

3. 30 bend over rows (double KB)

4. 40 walking lunges with KBs

5. Sled pushes

Friday

Woke up with my butt hurting from walking lunges.  Thanks Nicole!  After work, Michael and I got him settled into Mom’s house (he’ll be living there till we get married) and then we got my house prepared for moving day!

Saturday

MOVING DAY!!!!!!!!

The plan: move stuff out of my house, move Michael’s stuff in my house, move David’s stuff (Michael’s brother) into Michael’s old condo that he bought.

The day started at 8am.  Dad showed up to help me disconnect my washer and dryer and clean the laundry area (OMG the dust).  Then we took apart my bed.  The washer was going to my maid of honor to replace her old one.  The dryer is going to my cousin and his soon to be wife.  The bed was going home with my dad to my stepsister to replace her old bed.

The guys arrived with the truck and brought in so much stuff.  There is no room for it all! The washer and dryer were too big for the doors to shut (I knew it!) so we had to take them off.  Guess I”ll be hanging a curtain up!

They loaded up the van with everything that had to find new homes, then after that, they moved David into the condo.  I unpacked a TON of stuff…and it still looks like I didn’t make a dent in it!

Sunday

Easter Sunday! It was fun to lead worship with the team on Sunday because we had such a full stage! After church, we relaxed at home for awhile, then spent the rest of the afternoon at my mom’s/Michael’s.  My stepdad built a fire and we had dinner over there.  It was a nice relaxing end to a crazy weekend!

Weekly Update – 2/23/15

Monday

Yoga was great, and I’m glad it was great because it ended up being one of few workouts this week!  I was joined my my normal crazy crew of ladies and we had a lot of fun cutting up during class.  Yeah, we are THOSE people.

Tuesday

We had some surprise snow on Tuesday night – they were only calling for a dusting at most, and we ended up with 2-3 inches.  I had cancelled with Danny already because I had a work dinner to go to.  I have been at the bank for 5 years now, so they threw us a little party and gave us a small gift.

Wednesday

Since we knew we were getting another round of Snowpocalypse, Danny was certain that the gym would be closed on Thursday.  He had an opening at 6:30, so I took it.

Did a warmup to open up my hips cause my hip flexors hate me.

Three Rounds of the following:

1. SA KB Squats (10)

2. SA Bent over rows (10)

3. SA RDLs (10)

4. Lunges with barbell overhead

Then we did the other side.

Thursday

My workout with Nicole was cancelled due to the snow.  It was nice to work from home.  I did get a good workout in at lunchtime when I shoveled the driveway!

Friday

We were back at work Friday.  Michael went out of town with one of his buddies, so I had some downtime by myself.

Saturday

Worked out with Danny in the morning.  We worked out in the basketball court so we could do suicides. Yay.

1. 10 double KB clean and press/1 suicide

2. 20 kneeling bottoms up KB press (each side)/2 suicides

3. 30 ball slams/3 suicides

4. 40 double KB bent over rows/4 suicides

5. 50 resistance band jumping jacks/5 suicides

Then I got a second workout of the day when I went to my moms house and we priced and organized things for the yard sale.  Then we moved two of her couches into the pickup truck so my parents could take them to my sister.  They are buying Michael’s furniture and we are moving that next week.  I ended up with a nice bruise on my arm.

Sunday

Church in the morning, I did worship team. Michael and I were lazy most of the day.  We talked about some of the logistics of moving and reorganizing the house.
