Weekly Update – 2/13/2017

This was not a great week for working out, but a great, relaxing week. Better luck next week!

Monday

Since we knew we were going to miss a workout on Tuesday night, we decided to work out on Monday, which is normally a rest day for us.

….And then Monday happened and that didn’t happen.

Tuesday

Every year, our CEO sends valentines to all of the women in the company.  Here is my cute little bundle of carnations!

We have a tradition of going down to the oceanfront and having dinner at Isle of Capri for Valentine’s Day.  It is a great Italian restaurant on the 6th floor of a hotel overlooking the water.

I had a house Caesar salad (which is made table side!) and the Chicken Normandy.  I also had a few glasses of wine and some tiramisu for dessert.  I took one bite of my dessert and asked for the rest of it to be wrapped up.  I was stuffed.

Wednesday

I skipped yoga.  I was exhausted after work.

Thursday

On Thursday, we met with the builder to go over all of our options one more time (after a little issue we had recently).  We went to the gym after work and I got 2 miles in on the treadmill.

Friday

Friday was fairly uneventful.  We went to get some Mexican food after work. We came home and watched some home movies of me and my brother.  Michael loves seeing old videos of me and my family.

Saturday

On Saturday, we ran a bunch of errands, then we had an fundraiser to attend Saturday night.  We met a vendor from work and had a wonderful steak dinner at a restaurant in Virginia Beach, then went to a conference center nearby for a casino night fundraiser. The theme was Great Gatsby (or cocktail attire).  Some people really went all out, but as you can see – we just dressed nice instead.

Sunday

We went up to Dover on Sunday to go to the Dover Downs casino.  Michael wanted to go play blackjack and he bribed me with a massage.

I got a lovely hot stone massage while he played.  We had dinner at the casino, and I went up to the hotel room to watch The Walking Dead.

Bonus Day: Monday Holiday

Since it was a holiday weekend, we stayed overnight at Dover.  We slept in on Monday, had Bob Evans for breakfast, and then hit the road.  We stopped at Island Creamery in Chincoteague.  It was a nice mild day for February.

Our little detour took awhile, and we got home around 4.  After getting some laundry done, we went to have dinner at my mom’s and catch up with her for a bit.

Did you have Monday off? What did you get into?  Do you like detours on drives home from somewhere, or do you like to get home as fast as possible?

Weekly Update – 4/4/16

Monday

Monday was a day off of work and a travel day back from Atlantic City.  Nothing too crazy, but we did stop for a yummy lunch at a cool place called Blacksmith Bar and Restaurant.  They are a farm to table type restaurant.  Totally unexpected up on the Eastern Shore in the middle of nowhere!

Yummy locally sourced salad!

We also stopped at Island Creamery because ice cream.  I didn’t take a picture of my ice cream, but I’ll recycle an old picture because I get the same thing every time!

Tuesday

Work kicked my butt. I didn’t work out, and I don’t feel bad about it.

Wednesday

Went for a normal checkup at the doctor and my blood pressure was high (its normally on the lower side of normal).  Does anyone else get high blood pressure at the doctor’s office? I hate going to the doctor and it sends my stress levels through the roof!

Made it back to yoga on Wednesday and class was great.  My knee is able to tolerate a lot more pressure on it, so I don’t have to modify poses as much.  Its been a month since my fall at work, so I’m relieved its finally feeling much better.

Thursday

I had to work late on Thursday.  Stopped by my mom’s house on the way home and had her check my blood pressure.  It still high.  This is a clear sign to me that I need to find a way to reduce my stress and do all the other things I should be doing to take care of myself.  My lack of consistency in working out and eating right has certainly started taking more of a toll.  How can I be this stressed after a vacation!?

Friday

Friday was a surprisingly relaxed day at work.  We went out to dinner with my dad and stepmom.  I resisted the urge to get all the bad things, and got one of the healthier options on the menu.

Saturday

On Saturday I got up and got in 3 miles on the treadmill.  I showered, enjoyed an iced coffee, and vegged out for awhile.  I had some Jersey Mike’s for lunch, then went to get my bridesmaid’s dress altered (for my brother’s wedding).

I spent the rest of the day being a complete bum and watching Jurassic Park on TV.

Sunday

Had church responsibilities in the morning.  Afterward, we had tickets to the Norfolk Tides baseball game (minor league team).  We got them from work…didn’t realize how nice the suite was!

untitled

We stayed until the 8th inning, then got on the road.  I wasn’t feeling well. We spend the rest of the night vegging out.

How was your week? Do you like baseball?

Weekly Update – 1/11/16

Monday

Yoga night.  I got to the gym early, and jumped on the treadmill for a quick half mile.  Class was pretty crowded. Something was wrong with the AC and it was extremely warm in the studio.  Jaye joked that it was “hot yoga.” Hot yoga is nice if you are prepared for it and dressed for it!

Class was a bit tough as a result. It got really humid in there and I ended up resting a lot more than normal just to cool down. All you crazy people that do hot yoga….how do you handle it?!

Tuesday

Normal gym night.  I got a 5k in on the treadmill, and a lot of fantastic people watching!

Wednesday

I had to skip yoga on Wednesday 😦  We had a very late holiday celebration for work on Wednesday night.  We went down to VA Beach and ate at Gordon Biersch.  It was a great time with my coworkers, but made for a really late night out.

Thursday

I had so much pent up energy on Thursday from not having worked out on Wednesday.  I did a 5k on the treadmill.  I have this new habit of watching youtube videos while on the treadmill instead of listening to music…and its wonderful!

Friday

We left work a bit early to head to Dover to go to the casino.  It was a long trip up (4 hours), but we made time to stop for Island Creamery in Chincoteague on the way.  We played some blackjack and slots before bed.  Michael stayed up far later than I did!

Saturday

On Saturday, I got up and went to the gym at the hotel.  It was small and not well ventilated.  I worked up a sweat pretty quick!  I did 2 miles on the treadmill, then planned on doing some strength training.  Unfortunately, when I walked around the corner to the weight area, all the dumbbells were EVERYWHERE.  Apparently, people don’t feel like re-racking their weights.  So I did it, and that was my workout.

After the gym, I hopped in the shower and headed to the spa for my spa day. I got a fantastic sports massage and a mani/pedi. Afterward, Michael and I got some lunch, then I headed back to the room to relax, and Michael played some more blackjack.

Our friend Gina came, and she was going to show me the ropes with the slot machines.  I brought $100 to play with.  Sat down, won $80.  So I pocketed the $100 and just played on the $80.  I ended up leaving $52 up!

Sunday

On Sunday, we went to visit Michael’s family in northern VA.  We went to a place called Potbelly sandwiches for lunch (yum) and then hung out with his cousin for a bit.  Later in the afternoon, we headed to his Aunt Sally’s house. She made us a wonderful home cooked meal, and we got to spend some good time with her.

Bonus Day: Monday

Since it was a holiday weekend, we stayed over at Sally’s on Sunday night.  We got up on Monday and she made us a wonderful breakfast, then we got on the road.

untitled2

We stopped in Richmond to get our rings cleaned. We got home around 1:30 and started on chores.  I did laundry, and Michael did the cooking for the week. At about 7, we just sat on the couch for the rest of the night and watched Shark Tank.  It was a lovely end to a long weekend!

How was your long weekend?

Fun Weekend in Chincoteague + Island Creamery

When I decided to take a vacation day on Friday, I thought I had a nice relaxing weekend in store.  Little did I know that my mom would call and we’d end up going camping in Chincoteague!

I woke up Friday morning and was able to get a bunch of laundry done and a good hour of yoga.  I got myself packed and cleaned up and went to see my mom.

After we dropped her car off at the shop, we went to get Michael’s birthday present. After that it was JoJacks time!  I texted Hollie since we’ve eaten there together before, and I found out that she had been there only 20 short minute earlier! I was so sad I missed her!

Chicken Bacon Panini – OMG.

I had wanted to get some wedding planning stuff done with my vacation time so we headed to a florist to get some ideas for wedding stuff. After that we headed to the store that I got my wedding dress to look at bridesmaids dresses and get color swatches.

Finally, we got on the road to Chincoteague.  I don’t remember most of the (2.5 hr) drive as I was daydreaming about Island Creamery.  We pulled into the campground and met up with my mom’s sister (Helen) and my cousins Rachel and Brandon.  Brandon also brought his girlfriend, Kiley. We ate dinner then it was off to Island Creamery.  This ice cream place has won awards, ya’ll.

After spending forever trying to find parking, we joined the insanely long line that looked like this:

This ice cream is SO worth the wait!

That’s a 2-scoop waffle cone – Pony Tracks and Mint!

We hung around the campground for the rest of the night, sitting around the campfire…you know, typical camping stuff.

The next day we got up, made bacon and eggs and had some coffee.  We waited forever for the teenagers to get up and ready.  The cool thing about Chincoteague is that its a really small beach town with lots of touristy stuff to do.  We hit up a bunch of quaint little shops for a good portion of the morning and early afternoon.  We came back for a late lunch and played round after round of Bananagrams – of which I am the champion! Sometimes we get bored of playing regular words so we’ll play with names or verbs or other categories.

Mom and I got some Island Creamery pints and quarts to go of some of our favorite flavors and then got on the road.  I really love spending time with my mom.

So while the weekend was short and sweet – and I got pretty much zero rest, it was a good one 🙂
