So some things happened….

Did you guys think I disappeared forever? I know, felt like that to me too.

A lot of big things have happened since I last checked in with you guys:

  • We closed on our new house
  • We sold our old house
  • I had my first DNS
  • Hurt my foot – diagnosis TBD
  • I got a (temporary) employee

First off! We closed a chapter of our lives in the old house and have moved into the home we built! Here are a few pictures ūüôā

I had my first DNS for a race when I injured my foot.¬† I had signed up for the race for Memorial Day weekend in late April.¬† The week before Memorial Day I started having pain in my forefoot on the top of my foot.¬† An X-ray reveal no fracture, but it hurt too bad and I decided to not do the race.¬† Still picked up my t-shirt though ūüôā

I have a doctor’s appointment next week to get another look at it.¬† My foot had started feeling better, but in the last week it started hurting again.¬† I have a lot of swelling on the top of my foot again.¬† I’ll let you all know how it turns out!

This is a lot of why you haven’t heard from me.¬† I haven’t been able to do much of anything in terms of working out.¬† No yoga, running, walking, anything.¬† Once I figure out what is going on, I want to come up with a game plan of what I can safely do.

I have an employee!¬† Well, she’s a summer intern, but she’s fabulous and I want to keep her forever.¬† She is going into her senior year at Randolph Macon and she’s such a sweet girl.

So what’s coming up?¬† We have a trip to Seattle coming up and a trip to San Diego. What are the must do places to see and eat?

Weekly Update – 4/10/2017

There wasn’t much going on last week¬†– hence the lack of an update.¬† This is a really short one at that…¬† Michael got sick with the flu, then pneumonia, and I spent most of my week taking care of him and the house.

On a more positive note, we got an offer on our townhouse that we are selling and we have a ratified contract! We are excited and will close on our current home 5 days after we close on the new house!

In the middle of all that, I did run a 5k.  Recap to come!

Weekly Update – 4/3/2017

This wasn’t a great workout week, but it was a really nice week otherwise.¬† I had some great quality time with Michael and got out of the house and had a blast.

Decided that since it was warmer weather out, we’d get in 2 miles outside.¬† We walked around my mom’s neighborhood (its a mile around).

Got in 2 miles on the treadmill.

I was exhausted from a long day on Wednesday and wasn’t feeling well, so I decided to skip¬†yoga.

We had our date night on Thursday and watched a movie on Netflix.

We had a showing on Friday night, so we got out of the house and went to Mexican.

On Saturday, we had to be out of the house for a few showings, so we decided to drive up to Richmond and get our rings cleaned and get some lunch.  We found a cool place called Supper! and had some great salads.

We came home in the early afternoon, and then went out to Mermaid Winery with some friends and had a great night.

After church on Sunday, we grabbed some lunch and did our grocery shopping.  We stopped by the house to measure for a fridge and got to see the progress.  We then went to Home Depot and bought said fridge!

We also had to file a police report because someone decided to shoot a BB gun through my taillight.

How was your week? Do you like going to wineries?

Weekly Update – 3/6/2017

The work week was pretty uneventful, but we did have a nice weekend with family.  Its getting easier to get motivated now that I can see an end to winter.

I was exhausted all day on Monday.  We had a nice evening in.

On Tuesday we headed to the gym.  I did a quick 2.10 miles on the treadmill.

Went to yoga on Wednesday like planned.  Class was good, but I modified to easier poses.  For some reason the knee that I fell on last year was bothering me.

We had date night on Thursday and went out for Mexican food.¬† I’m really enjoying our weekly date nights.¬† Its nice to intentionally spend time together. We spent some time planning our trip to Seattle.

My brother was in town for his birthday, and to pick up his new sweet Corgi pup.¬† Kona was the highlight of the night at my mom’s house.¬† We had a nice time celebrating with family.

On Saturday, I had to work for a bit in the morning.  After I wrapped up my work, we headed to the gym and I got in 2 miles on the treadmill.  My time on the treadmill felt really good.  Lots of energy. We met my brother up at our new house and got to show him around.  We have a driveway and sidewalk now!

We had some errands to run that afternoon, so we did all those items before heading to my dad’s for my brother’s birthday celebration there.

After church on Sunday, we had a pretty lazy day.  Did some laundry, grocery shopping, food prep, and watched lots of HGTV.  I even took a pretty nice nap, since Daylight Savings Time took its toll on me.

Have you adjusted to the time change? Do you have any pets?

Weekly Update -2/27/2017

This week was a bit better for workouts.¬† I pushed myself to try to get back into strength training.¬† The week was extremely long for me; seemed like an eternity.¬† The massive swings in the weather didn’t help!

Michael¬†was traveling¬†for a work trip.¬† I desperately needed a haircut and had scheduled one for when he’d be away.¬† I go through phases where I let my hair grow long, then I very¬†suddenly feel the need to cut it, and act on it quickly!

My hair feels so much healthier and lighter with about 4-5 inches gone.

I decided to workout at home. Michael was out of town, and working out at home takes up less time than driving to the gym.  I hit the treadmill for 1.5 miles in my new shoes. Then I did 3 rounds of the following:

  1. 10 bodyweight squats
  2. :30 plank
  3. 10 crunches*

*First round were normal crunches, next round was legs at 90 angle, next was legs up with ankles crossed.

I remembered that I had intended to do lunges in that mix, so I added 10 on each side to the last round.

I’ve not done any strength training in a long time.¬† I really miss it, but its REALLY hard to get back into it.¬† I’m going to make it my goal to start small (as evidenced by the simplicity of this workout), but I know I need to do it and fight through the hard part.

Wednesday during the day was beautiful in terms of temperature.¬† We have been in the 70s and 80s all week.¬† We were supposed to get severe storms on Wednesday night, so I debated not attending yoga.¬† However, I decided to go, and I didn’t regret it.¬† I had some soreness from the squats I did on Tuesday, and class helped stretch me out.¬† We did a lot of hip openers, which was fantastic.

Michael was supposed to be home on Wednesday night, but because of the severe weather, his flight was cancelled.

Michael finally made it home!¬† Thursday night is date night, and I was especially glad for it, considering he’d been gone for a few days.¬† The soreness from Tuesday’s workout and yoga was setting in and I was glad for a day off.

On Friday, we had a night in and had Jersey Mike’s and watched a movie on Netflix.¬† It started getting really cold for the weekend, so it was nice just to spend the night in.

On Saturday, I got up and got 2 miles in on the treadmill, while Michael got his hair cut.  We got our showers and relaxed for a little while.  Michael had sushi with his brother and went to run errands, and I stayed home and relaxed and cleaned up some around the house.  We went out to Mexican later Рand then watched HGTV all night.

On Sunday, we attended the new church we’ve been visiting, then had lunch with the pastor, his wife, and another couple.¬† We’ve really felt welcomed by them, and it was nice to get to know them all a little better.¬† After church we came stopped by the new house and took some pictures,¬†then headed home where¬†I did all the laundry and Michael meal prepped for the week.¬† We had a nice relaxing evening.

How was your week? Do you get your hair cut regularly, or do you let it grow and cut it all off like I do?

Weekly Update – 2/20/2017

I did only moderately better with my workouts this past week, but some progress is better than no progress!¬† I’m hoping my new shoes will give me some added motivation this coming week…

I covered Monday on last week’s post.

After work we hit up the gym for a workout.  I got in 2.25 miles on the treadmill and Michael hit the weights.  I was sore from my massage on Sunday Рshe really dug into my back and my legs, and I was feeling it!

Yoga was great on Wednesday.¬† I didn’t get my normal “spot” in class, but that was actually a good thing.¬† Let me step out of my comfort zone.¬† Jaye and I talked about music for class before and I gave her a list of music I thought she’d like.¬† I’m excited to see if she uses any of it for class!

Thursday was an interesting day.¬† We discovered the weather stripping around my windshield was coming off, so we took it to the shop.¬† Michael ended up having to work really late, so I got a ride to pick up my car from a coworker of mine.¬† I didn’t know what time to expect Michael home…thought he’d only be a little late – and Thursday night is usually date night.¬† I should have capitalized on the free time to fit in a workout, but I didn’t.

On Friday we had Mexican food with my brother in law.

We had 2 showings on our house on Saturday, so I had a busy morning.¬† I got up, did a very quick 1.5 miles on the treadmill at home, then got to cleaning.¬† I consider vacuuming, deep cleaning bathrooms, etc as a very good workout! We went to a local running store to get some new shoes.¬† Michael got evaluated and fitted and ended up with a pair of Brooks.¬† I decided to go back to my Saucony Guides.¬† I’m looking forward to my first workout with them!

We grabbed lunch at YNot Pizza.  They have fantastic chopped salads there.  Since it was a beautiful 70-something degree day, we ate outside.  We went down to the harbor and walked around and did some great people watching.

We wrapped up the evening with a Netflix movie.  I convinced Michael to watch Amadeus, and he loved it!

Sunday morning we went to church.¬† Afterwards, we had lunch with my dad and stepmom, then drove out to a model home that is the same floorplan as our new house.¬† They have seen our new house in progress, but haven’t seen a fully decked out model.¬† They loved it! Afterward, we went to the new house and walked around.¬† I snapped a few pictures.¬† The house is really coming together!

What shoes are you currently running in?

Do you consider cleaning the house a workout? What about yard work?

Weekly Update – 2/6/2017

While this wasn’t a fantastic week for working out, I felt like I did a lot better with work/life balance and making sure to practice self-care. I’ve found it to be really important to listen to my body recently.

On Monday, I planned a rest day due to having the race the day before.  I normally take a rest day on Sunday, but decided to shift everything over.

On Tuesday, we hit up the gym and I got a quick 2 miles in on the treadmill.  We planned for a bit longer at the gym, but ran into some new house issues and had to go meet with the builder.

I was so incredibly exhausted on Wednesday.¬† Its normally yoga day for me, but I couldn’t even think about anything other than a giant nap all afternoon.¬† I came home and relaxed all night and went to bed really early.

We had our normal date night on Thursday night.¬† We made the mistake of¬† having Arby’s for dinner and regretted it, as both of us ended up with upset stomachs.¬† Not that we needed to be told that fast food is bad for you…

On Friday, we had another night at home.¬† We’ve become quite the homebodies.¬† We watched a weird movie on Netflix (what other kind is there?)

On Saturday we got up and went to the gym.  I got in 2 miles on the treadmill. We spend the rest of the day with my mom and stepdad.  We walked through the new house, spent some time enjoying the nice weather, and went out to dinner.  I had the best Caesar salad that made my breath smell like garlic through Sunday!

On Sunday we got to sleep in a little bit, as we were trying out a new church that didn’t start until 11.¬† After church, we came home and did a bunch of chores.¬† We even finally cleaned the cars.¬† Since the weather was unseasonably warm (set a new record at 81 degrees!), we decided to¬†go for a 2 mile walk around my mom’s neighborhood and stopped at Starbucks for a nice cold iced coffee.

How was your weekend? Did you have warmer weather this weekend like we did in VA?
