Race Recap: Alumni 5k 2017

This was my first virtual race ever!  This race was back in November.  I love this race, it was the first race I ever did, so I love any opportunity I have to complete it.  We were having a housewarming party for our new home and I wasn’t able to go. I was glad to see they had a virtual option.

Packet Pickup and Expo

No packet pickup for me, since it was virtual.  I got the package in the mail a few days before the race was to take place.

Race Day Conditions/Attire

I completed this race on the treadmill, so no special considerations for attire or race day conditions.

Race Time

It took me a few weeks after the race to actually complete this – oops!  I did this race after work one day and was completely exhausted, but knew I needed to get it done.  I walked this one and finished in 55:12.

After Party

Have you ever done a virtual race? How did you like it? Do you think they “count” as an actual race?

Race Recap: Wicked 10K 2017

Better late than never on this recap….

I have a love/hate relationship with this race.  I love this race, because I love to see all of the costumes that people come up with.  I hate this race, because its a 10k and it just feels like a forever long race.

Packet Pickup and Expo

I’ve started opting for more race day pickups, and this race was no exception.  I love going early anyway so I can see all the different costumes people come in. I saw some great Walking dead costumes.  Lots of superheroes, and lots of “sexy” versions of something.

Race Day Conditions/Attire

I’m completely lame and didn’t dress up.  I wore capris length pants and a tshirt.

Pre Race

I got in line pretty early, because again, I wanted to see as many costumes as I could. I started one corral from the back because I planned on walking the entire time.

Race Time

I’m not going to lie, I felt awful during this race. 6.2 miles might have well been 16.  I was tired, unmotivated, and walking is SO SLOW. The first 3 miles went ok.

Mile 4, I started noticing I was getting a blister on my right heel.  It proceeded to get worse and worse throughout the race, slowing me down even more.

I finished in 1:43:05.

After Party

The party was on the beach, and although the weather was nice, my blister made me not want to stay.  Plus, I knew I had about a 1/2 mile walk back to the car.

I got my soup, ate that real quick then skipped the beer.

Sadly, I didn’t snap any pictures that day, not even of my medal!

Did you do any Halloween races this year? (gosh I know I’m so late!)

Race Recap: Crawlin Crab 5k 2017

This recap is more than a little late, but better late than never.

Crawlin Crab was my first race back after my injury.  I planned on taking it very easy.

Packet Pickup and Expo

I opted for race day pickup.  I was there before packet pickup opened up.  I waited it out in the lobby of the convention center after I picked up my packet.

Race Day Conditions/Attire

Early October is usually pretty warm, and this year was no exception.  I wore capris and a tank top.  I’m not going to share my red faced post race picture, but let me tell you, it showed how hot it was 🙂

Pre Race

I waited around the convention center after packet pickup, and headed out to my corral relatively early.

Race Time

This was my first race back this fall, and first race after my neuroma that I developed in late spring.  I had only been walking -hadn’t ventured into any running yet.  I decided to take it pretty easy.

The course was a bit different this year, and went through a petting zoo.  Yes, a petting zoo.  You could literally stop and take pictures with donkeys, alpacas, etc.  I should have gotten a few pictures – but it was a ton of fun watching everyone else do so.

The miles ticked away pretty easy and before I knew it, the race was over. I finished in 50:17.

After Party

Have you ever done a race that goes through a unique location?

Weekly Update – 12/18/2017 and Merry Christmas!

The week leading up to Christmas is always a little crazy.  Lots of activities and last minute prep work. This week was no exception. But before I jump into the craziness – I wanted to share a few pictures of Christmas in our new house!

Monday

Monday after work, my mom and I were going to go to my old high school’s choir concert.  I love their Christmas concert every year.  I had a pretty active day, so I didn’t grab a workout before the concert.

Tuesday

Tuesday night was a potluck dinner at work.  Since I got home early enough, I made sure to get in  2 miles on the treadmill.

Wednesday

I didn’t have a lot of time after work for a workout, AND I didn’t have time to shower. So I just walked 1.5 miles on the treadmill, washed up, and headed to my mom’s house for her annual Dirty Santa ornament exchange.  I ended up leaving with the same ornament I brought because I love it so much!

Thursday

On Thursday, I took a half day off of work.  I had a lot of last minute errands to run before our Christmas celebrations.  We drove around to find some pretty lights and found this cool house nearby:

Friday

I got in 2.5 miles before all the chaos started on Friday.  I took the day off to prepare for our big family dinner (my stepdad’s family).  We had 21 people over our house for dinner.

Sorry about the sideways picture – I can’t get it to turn correctly!

Saturday

On Saturday, I convinced my husband to walk 2.5 miles with me around the neighborhood.  We had an otherwise relaxing day before dinner & Christmas celebration with my dad and stepmom.

Sunday

Sunday was Christmas Eve.  I decided to take it easy.  Since jumping back into working out, I’ve been extremely active and on my feet a lot.  My lack of yoga and strength training has been affecting me and I can tell I’m super tight and my supporting muscles and ligaments were getting a little mad at me.  We watched Christmas movies all day until it was time for Christmas Eve service with my mom and stepdad.  Afterward, we opened presents with them.

Bonus Day: Monday – Christmas!

My husband and I got up and opened presents together Christmas morning.  We both spoiled each other way too much.  Afterward, we headed to my in-laws house for a late lunch/early dinner with my brother in law and my husband’s aunt.  We had a great time!

How was your Christmas?  Do you have any great traditions with your family?

Weekly Update – 12/4/2017

Monday

On Monday, I went to Old Navy after work to take advantage of some coupons I had.  Since I had a very active day, and got all my FitBit steps, I didn’t feel bad about skipping a workout.

Tuesday

Since I’m not a fan of walking/running outside by myself when its dark, I opted for completing 2 miles on the treadmill.

Wednesday

Michael and I did 4 laps around the neighborhood – a little over 2 miles.

Thursday

Michael and I did 3 laps around the neighborhood, which is around 1.5 miles.

Friday

I took a vacation day on Friday to get some Christmas related stuff done.  Mom and I got a lot of errands done, Christmas present wrapping, cleaning, etc.  I had hope to get a workout in, but trust me, I was active enough without it!  We went out to dinner with some of Michael’s work vendors.  We had a great dinner at Ruth’s Chris.

Saturday

On Saturday, I got up and started going through my closet.  I had boxes of clothes that I hadn’t even unpacked from when we moved.  I got rid of 2 boxes of clothes, either to the thrift store or to my stepsister.   We got some cleaning done, some shopping done, and even had time for a Christmas movie!

Sunday

After church on Sunday, we did our grocery shopping, then lots of cleaning and chores around the house.  The best part was watching my Philadelphia Eagles win.

How was your week?  How is your Christmas shopping going?

Did you think I disappeared?

I’m baaaaaack!!!! Well, I’ve said that before and then disappeared again.  I’m going to try to be back for real this time.

I took a lot of time off of any exercising due to the neuroma that wouldn’t heal! I developed a neuroma in my foot in May.  After many visits to the podiatrist, lots of steroids, and completely ceasing all exercise, its finally resolved itself.  I had a very hard time getting the swelling to go down, but now I’m finally back at it.

I’ve done a few races this fall – mostly walking, but introducing a little running slowly back into the mix.  I’ll probably catch up on some blog posts about those races soon.

More to come from me – and I cannot wait to catch up with all of you!

And the preliminary diagnosis is….

So I finally went to the doctor this morning for my foot issues.  I had gone to a Patient First on Memorial Day weekend to get an X-Ray and rule out a stress fracture.  They said if it didn’t get better in two weeks to go see my primary care doctor.  Well, its been over a month, its still not better, so I went to my doctor.

As all good doctors do, she knows when she doesn’t know enough, and is sending me to a podiatrist.  Her preliminary guess based on my symptoms and all the lovely poking and prodding she did was that I have a neuroma.  I had honestly ruled that out in all my googling because typically it presents with ball of the foot pain, not top of the foot pain.  This is why you don’t self-diagnose!

So, the podiatrist will schedule an appointment with me and we’ll see how it goes – and if they agree with her diagnosis!

Have any of you had a neuroma (aka Morton’s neuroma) before?  What was the recovery process like?
