Weekly Update – 12/26/2017

After the busyness of the Christmas season, the week between Christmas and New Year’s is pretty calm, especially at work.  This gave me time to really focus on getting back to the gym, and not just working out at home.

Tuesday

Finally went back to the gym – I’ve been working out at home for so long!  Did 1.5 miles on the treadmill before I hit the weights.

3 Rounds of the following:

  • 10 Dumbbell tricep extensions (12 lbs – dropped down to 8 lbs for last set)
  • 10 bodyweight squats
  • 10 incline pushups

3 Rounds of leg press – 10 reps at 100 lbs.

I decided to add in the leg press at the last minute.  I have been having issues with runner’s knee since I haven’t been doing strength training.

It felt good to get some strength training back in.  Now I just gotta get back to yoga.

Wednesday

Since it was ridiculously cold outside, and I didn’t even want to drive to the gym, I opted for a treadmill workout at home.  Just a quick 2 miles.

Thursday

Got 2 miles in on the treadmill at home, and tortured myself with the foam roller.

Friday

Went to the gym after work.  Got in 2 miles on the treadmill before doing a little strength training.

I did 3 rounds of the following:

  • 10 Dumbbell tricep extensions (10 lbs – dropped down to 8 lbs for last set)
  • 10 incline pushups

Then I got on the reACT Trainer and did 30 seconds facing each direction (front, back, left side, right side).

Saturday

I skipped a workout on Saturday.  Michael and I had a really active day – running errands, cleaning etc.

Sunday

On Sunday, we hit up the gym and I got in 3.1 miles on the treadmill.  It feels good to be consistently going back to the gym.

  1. I really prefer running outside but just joined a new gym to do some classes. It helps for the colder months and also for cross training. I think I need to cross train more. But it’s hard to go to the gym this time of year with so many people!

    • Yes, the weather has been terrible and I don’t need to freeze to death. I have run enough rainy and cold Shamrocks to earn runner badges of honor. If the weather is bad – I stay inside! January started with a bang here! about 8 inches of snow today!
