This race is always a lot of fun, but has a history of being cold and/or rainy. I convinced my husband to do this one with me.
Packet Pickup and Expo
We opted for packet pickup the day before. They moved pickup to the new Waterside District building. We didn’t really linger around for dinner, we just headed home.
Race Day Conditions/Attire
It was FREEZING on race day. Temps were to be in the mid-50s, but the wind was horrible. I wore long pants, a long sleeved shirt, and a sweatshirt.
We stayed in the parking garage as long as we could until we finally decided we had to use the bathroom too bad to stay in there any longer! We hung out around the park by the starting line until it was time to line up. We froze in our corrals.
It was freezing at the start, but within the first mile, I was able to take off my sweatshirt and tie it around my waist. The first mile went by very quickly. Second and third mile were a little slower, but the weather was much nicer and the sun came out.
Even though Michael started out one corral back from me, he caught up to me with about a half mile left. We alternated jogging/walking and finished together.
I finished in 49:42.
I didn’t get to enjoy the after party food, because it was a stew that had apples in it. Since I’m allergic to apples, no soup for me! I did have part of a beer and had enough of the cold.
Have you ever done a race where the “feels like” temperature didn’t seem to match the actual temperature?
