Weekly Update – 10/17/2016

This past week started off pretty busy and stressful, then slowly morphed into a nice relaxing weekend.

On Monday I took my exam for the class I took last week.  I needed a 70% to pass, and I got a 80%! I was very nervous, but did well, and I’m very happy about it. I went into work for the rest of the day.

Tuesday – Thursday

On Tuesday, I left for a conference for work that was up in Philadelphia.  Its a very quick trip – drive up Tuesday, conference Wednesday and 1/2 day Thursday, then drive back Thursday afternoon. I always enjoy this conference, as it is for a vendor that I work very closely with.  I get to see other bankers from other institutions that I’ve gotten to know over the years.

I ended up taking a comp day on Friday.  I had worked a TON of overtime the past 2 weeks and needed a good day off.  We went up to Richmond and met Michael’s aunt for lunch.  That night, we went to see the Madea Halloween movie.  It was silly, but hilarious.

On Saturday, we had a really chill day.  We ran some errands and went to MacArthur mall and did some window shopping, and Christmas shopping idea generating!

We had church responsibilities on Sunday AM, then I came back and went to Old Navy to spend my super cash! I had been hoarding it and waiting until I could use it to do any fall clothes shopping.  I ended up with a few shirts and a vest.  I also got one for my mom, cause she’s been looking for a blue puffy vest forever.

How was your week? When was the last time you traveled for work?

Weekly Update – 10/10/2016

This was a pretty stressful week regarding work, but we also got to get out and enjoy time with friends and family!

Monday was covered in last week’s post.

Tuesday was a gorgeous fall day.  My husband usually goes for a walk/run in the morning before work.  On Tuesday he was gone for a whole 2 minutes before he came in and got on the treadmill.  Guess we aren’t used to the chill in the air yet!

Wednesday – Friday

I took a virtual class for work.  For any tech nerds out there, I’m trying to get ITIL Expert certified.  ITIL is basically best practices how to run an IT Department. I am already ITIL Foundation (aka beginner level) certified.  I was taking class one of FIVE that I’ll have to take (intermediate level).  Each class has an exam you have to pass afterward.  I didn’t realize when I signed up for the class that we didn’t take the exam the last day of class like other classes I’ve done.  I had to sign up to take it on Monday.

I had to work for about 5 hours on Saturday, some planned, some studying.  Michael and I attended a wedding for my trainers Nicole and Danny! It was a beautiful day up in Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore.  Such a beautiful wedding.

Selfies in the car!

Sometimes I clean up and wear makeup!

On Sunday, we checked out a local church (we commute to a church 30 minutes away). Since we are building a home and putting down roots here, we want to find a church home that is closer.  Afterward, we headed down to NC to see Michael’s parents.  Sunday night included more studying!

How was your week? Has the weather been where you are?

Weekly Update – 10/3/2016

Pretty good week, considering we got hit by a hurricane we weren’t supposed to get. Maybe one day I’ll work out again…

Came home to our roof being FINISHED. Just in time for this hurricane coming up the coast!

I ended up working late on Tuesday.  It was one of those days that the work just multiplied and I felt like I couldn’t get on top of it.  Then I came home and worked even more!

Wednesday was pretty uneventful. Came home and did some chores.

On Thursday, we had all these grand plans to go to the gym.  Right.  We both had to work late on Thursday.

On Friday, I had a training class that went until 6pm.  I worked from home after lunch so that I could take the class from the comfort of my own home.  Michael was out of town for work, so his brother and I had some yummy Mexican food for dinner.

I went shopping with my mom for a dress I need for a wedding this upcoming week.  We found THREE at Old Navy that I liked.  Thank goodness for amazing sales.  I was able to get them all.  The hurricane hit around 2 – and it POURED for the next 18 hours. We were not anticipating that hard of a hit, as it was forecasted to turn.

On Sunday, we decided not to head to church (we have to cross a bridge).  It was a good call too, because the bridge we usually go over was closed.  The rain stopped around lunch time.

We ran some errands and then went out to dinner with my mom and stepdad to get some yummy Chinese food.

Monday – bonus day!

Since Monday was Columbus Day, we had the day off.  We rented a storage unit and moved a bunch of stuff into it.  We want to start getting rid of clutter so that we can stage our house to sell.  We will be living in it while we try to sell it, so it needs to be as neat as possible.  This was the best workout I got in awhile! I literally packed my mom’s minivan full, by myself!

Did you get hit by the hurricane? How was your long weekend?

Race Recap: Crawlin Crab 5k 2016

This J&A Race is a favorite of mine.  Its only 20 minutes away from where we live and its super organized.  It usually kicks off my fall race season, and this year was no exception. Michael was upset that he didn’t sign up for the race, and was really regretting it. Maybe next year!

Packet Pickup and Expo

I opted for race day pickup.  We got there about 15 minutes before they opened the doors.  They were very quick.  The expo was tiny, and we didn’t stay long.

Race Day Conditions/Attire

It was going to be in the low 80s with a slight chance of rain.  I opted for a tank top, capri pants, and a hat.  Hats are slowly becoming my new favorite item to wear on race day!

Pre Race

After picking up my packet, I hung around inside until about 20 minutes before race start.  Michael walked down to the Dunkin Donuts to get some coffee.

Race Time

I was in corral 3 out of 4, and I positioned myself near the back of the corral.  I knew I planned on walking most of the race, so I didn’t think it was fair to be up front. They kicked off Team Hoyt a few minutes before the race start, and before I knew it, Corral 3 was out!

I decided I’d run the first quarter mile, see how I felt, then walk.  I saw Michael in his return trip from Dunkin.  I started walking after I hit the quarter mile mark.  The leaders were already doubling back by the time I hit the .75 mark.  Hit the first mile and felt good.

It started sprinkling around the 1.5 mile mark.  I was grateful for the cooling affect, but really didn’t feel like getting soaked.  I saw my friend Becca on the other side (it was mostly an out and back course.  I ran across for a hug and started running a bit again.

I was relieved when had less than a mile left….until it started POURING.  I’m not exaggerating, it was a TORRENTIAL downpour.  At that point, you just have to succumb to it, but I started running again because I’m not stupid and don’t want to be in it forever.

Thankfully it stopped raining after a quarter mile or so.  I walked some more, but then ran into the finish.  I finished in 48:26.

After Party

The after party was outside, and boy was it muddy.  I stayed long enough to get some yummy tomato soup from Baker’s Crust and a beer.  I don’t know why I was smiling this big after being that soaked, but it must have been the soup making me happy 🙂

I’m not happy with where my fitness is at, but I’m happy to be getting back into racing season – it will certainly be a great motivator!

Weekly Update – 9/26/2016

As you know from my last update, life has been a bit crazy.  I haven’t gotten hardly any workouts in… something I’m trying to mentally get my head back in the game about.  Anyways – here’s how the past week has been!

Had to work late on Monday. Monday was just one of those days… On the other hand, I got a lot of things done around the house Monday night.

On Tuesday night, we went to meet with the builder and finalize all of our options.  We found out that they’ve been selling more in the neighborhood, so hopefully by the time our house is finished, we’ll have a few more neighbors!

On Wednesday, I had all hopes of coming home and getting on the treadmill.  I just was completely wiped.

Woke up Thursday and realized why I was so wiped on Wednesday – got my visit from Mother Nature.  While I realize this is TMI – its played a huge factor in my overall energy levels recently.

On Friday we came home to the roofers starting on our roof.  That has started to become a saga, but hopefully by this time next week I’ll have nothing but good things to say!

In process…

Saturday was the Crawlin Crab 5k! I love this race, and because it usually is hot, I tend to take it super easy.  Recap to come!

The roofers came again on Saturday and finished the front of the house…now for the back.  I’ll be interested to see when that gets done.  Michael and I were both wiped, I had the race that morning and we had gotten woken up in the middle of the night for something with work.  We had a “slug day” for most of the day on Saturday.  However, we did start going through stuff preparing for putting some items in storage.

At least the front is finished…

After church, we grabbed lunch, then came home to do our chores.  It was a pretty uneventful day!
