Weekly Update – 5/23/2016

This week was ok.  I was able to get in a yoga session, walk, and 5k.  I was able to enjoy the long three day weekend, which will be the longest break we’ll get in awhile (big work project coming up in June).

Monday

I finally got back to yoga after about almost a month of being gone.  Class was a little tough in that regard, but I think I held my own pretty well.  She’s gotten better about ending class on time, which I really appreciate.  Its already a 75 minute class, and she used to regularly go to 90 minutes.

Tuesday

The weather was amazing on Tuesday!  Michael and I opted to go for about a 3 mile walk around my mom’s neighborhood.  We like to go walk there because its a giant loop.

Wednesday

Michael plays table tennis on Monday and Wednesday nights.  He’s been asking me to watch him play for some time now, so on Wednesday, I went with him.  The club was made up of a variety of people of different ages and backgrounds.  It was a very enjoyable time.

Thursday

I had a really long day at work on Thursday, and crashed on the couch when I got home.  No gym for me!

Friday

On Friday we went out to dinner with my dad, stepmom, stepsister and brother in law.  It was a nice time.

Saturday

After the race, we went to visit some friends of ours from church.  Our friend Chris has been experiencing issues with kidney stones for a few weeks now and its hard for him to get out an about because he’s in a lot of pain. We spend a lot of the rest of the day vegging out.

Sunday

On Sunday we had church responsibilities, then we went down to the oceanfront to have an early dinner with my mom and stepdad.  We went to a great place called Waterman’s, and we drank orange crushes and ate great seafood.

A Few of my Favorite Things

Every once and awhile I like to talk about a few of my favorite things! So without further ado, here are a few things I’m currently obsessed with!

FitBit Challenges

I have a friend at work (fellow runner) who invites me to a Goal Day challenge or Work Week Hustle during the work week.  I love it!  It definitely encourages me to get up and move around some more.

I also love a lot of the data that my FitBit collects.  In addition to the steps it logs, I like monitoring my heart rate, sleep, etc.

Kendra Scott

My future sister-in-law got me hooked on Kendra Scott when she got me a necklace for Christmas.  I’ve since gone to a retail location and gotten to touch and try on so much of it!

The Real World

I love trash TV.  The Real World this season is in Vegas and I’m loving it.  I’ve even got my husband all into the drama.  Who doesn’t love when seven strangers are forced into a house together?!

If you haven’t tried one…do it.  SO GOOD.

 Island Creamery

While all my trips up north to see my family haven’t been pleasant of late, they’ve afforded me the opportunity to go to Island Creamery on Chincoteague Island.  They are one of the best ice cream shops in the nation…no, seriously, they are: Best Ice Cream Parlors in America.

Weekly Update – 5/16/16

This week started off rough, but got better as the week went on.  I can’t wait to have a normal week again.  Here’s hoping this coming week is a bit better.

Monday -Tuesday

Home sick with a stomach bug.

Wednesday

I went back to work after being out sick and out for my grandfather’s funeral.  It was a really rough day…lots of work and I was exhausted.  I crashed after work and fell asleep for an hour.  On the plus side, I was able to eat a relatively normal meal for dinner.

Thursday

Thursday was a much better day at work.  I was able to eat incrementally more.  Still no working out.

Friday

On Friday, we went to Outback for dinner with my dad, stepmom and stepsister.  I had some salmon and broccoli.  My first normal meal!  It was good to spend time with them, as I hadn’t seen them for awhile.

Saturday

On Saturday, Michael and I had a pretty lazy day.  I did 4 loads of laundry, we did grocery shopping and some cleaning.  We did try a new recipe and made some avocado ranch dressing.  We put it over a yummy taco salad.  We made enough to eat off of for part of the week.

Full disclosure: the only thing I helped prepare was the taco meat. I’m not a cook.

 

Sunday

On Sunday we had church responsibilities and then we went to see Michael’s parents.  We hadn’t yet celebrated my birthday or my father in law’s birthday.  We went out to eat, then came back to his parents house for dessert and presents.

May Stitch Fix Review (Stitch Fix #18)

I say this every time: I know this is outside of my normal fitness/running blogging, but hey – its my blog, and I want to blog about my awesome clothes!

Here’s how it works: You set up a style profile and you receive a box with 5 items in it.  You can choose the frequency with which you set up the box …once a month, every other month, etc.  You pay $20 to receive a box.  If you keep anything, that $20 goes toward your purchase.  If you keep all 5 items, you get a discount!  They send you anything from jewelry, to clothes to handbags. They’ve even added SHOES to the mix! If you don’t want to keep an item, they have an envelope to send them back.

What I love about this is that I get a stylist that looks at my style profile and picks out items just for ME.  You can even link to a pinterest board so they can get inspiration and a better look into what you like.

Item Number 1 –  Bay to Baubles Rosaline Layered Lariat Necklace ($28)

Item Number 2 –  Gilli Kathleen Printed Maxi Skirt ($58)

I have been wanting to try a maxi skirt for awhile, but since I’m more curvy up top, they seem to look really unbalanced on me.  This was no exception.  I didn’t love the pattern of this one either.

Verdict: Return

Item Number 3 – Papermoon Waters Knit Maxi Dress ($68)

I’m obsessed with this dress.  I cannot wait to wear it.  It is so soft and comfortable.  Its exactly what you’d want out of a maxi dress.  The pattern looks to be a bit wild here, but its actually really nice.

Verdict: Keep

Item Number 4 –  Daniel Rainn Arcelia Cross Front Top ($58)

Surprisingly, this top was a bit big.  I like that she sent me more navy clothing after my feedback about not normally choosing to wear that color.  It just wasn’t terribly flattering on me, and my husband didn’t love it.  And you know, if the husband doesn’t love it….

Verdict: Return

Item Number 5 –  Le Lis Terresa V-Neck Dress  ($78)

This was a surprise for me.  I didn’t love the pattern right out of the box.  But it turned out to be flattering with my dark hair.  I also love the length.  Its just at the knee, so I could wear it to work.

Verdict: Keep

Overall Impression

My stylist did pay close attention to my Pinterest board.  She also paid a lot of attention to my feedback.  The last maxi I got didn’t have enough give, this one does.  Even though not every item is a keeper, she gets me to consider trying new things, which is kind of the point of this whole thing, right?

Still waiting for that perfect box that I keep all 5 items!

For my next fix I’ve asked her for a bunch of tanks/short sleeve shirts that are very flowy and loose for summer.  I’ll be going to Vegas in late August and would love some new stuff for the trip!

Quick Update – Crummy few weeks

So I had my normal post prepared for last week, but I felt I could just give a quick sum up instead.

To start this all off, I had a cold the first week in May (allergies were bad).

Then, the weekend of May 6-8 we traveled up to  Pennsylvania to see my grandfather.  His lung cancer had progressed and he was doing very poorly.  Unfortunately, he passed away while we were up there visiting.  We traveled back on Monday the 9th.

On Wednesday the 11th, we drove back up to PA for the funeral.  The funeral was on Thursday and was very nice.  A ton of people showed up and it indicated to me how much he was loved in the community.  It was also some really nice time spent with family.  It was really the joyful celebration of his life that he would have wanted.

We drove back to VA on Friday the 13th.

On Sunday night, as I prepared to go back to work, I started feeling ill.  My stomach didn’t feel quite right. By 9pm, I realized I had a stomach bug.  I’ll spare you the details.  I didn’t sleep well on Sunday night and stayed home sick on Monday and Tuesday.

I headed back to work today, but because I’ve not had much of an appetite and not eaten much, I’m pretty exhausted.  My immune system is pretty compromised at this point and I’m completely exhausted.  I may just lurk around here for awhile until I feel up to posting about working out again.  Right now, that’s not even on my radar.

Weekly Update – 5/2/2016

This past week was a rough one for a variety of reasons, hence the late posting of this update.  Sometimes you just have weeks like this….

Monday

It was unusually warm and humid on Monday, which led our yoga studio to be a bit unusually warm.  Class was a bit difficult because of that, and also because of all the bad food and drink I had at my brother’s wedding over the weekend.

Still, 2 months after my fall, my knee can still be pretty intolerant of kneeling.  I’ll be excited when that is no longer true and I feel like I can be free in my yoga practice.

Tuesday

Got two easy miles in on the treadmill.

Wednesday

On Wednesday I started feeling bad…sore throat, etc.  I crashed hard after work and started feeling really terrible.

Thursday

I slept really poorly Wednesday night and felt terrible in the morning.  Dragged myself to work anyway, but left early to finish out the day at home.

Friday – Sunday

I worked at home on Friday so that we could get on the road to go up to Pennsylvania.  My grandfather’s health has been slowly declining over the past few months, and we felt it was important to see him.  We had some great quality time with family, but unfortunately, he did pass away on Sunday night.  We have a long week ahead of us as we travel back to PA for the funeral.  If you could keep my family in your thoughts and prayers, I’d greatly appreciate it.

 

 

 

Weekly Update – 4/25/16 + My brother got married!

This was a great week.  Mostly because I was lazy and because my brother got married!!!!

Monday

Got in a quick mile before yoga.  Class was pretty crowded.  My knee is still getting better, but there are some things I do that it says “nope” to.  Its been two months!

Tuesday

I didn’t get a workout in.  My hand wash/gentle laundry (aka all of my work clothes) has been piling up and I needed to get it done.  I hate doing it because I have to hang dry all of them and it stinks.  So I got that done and starting getting myself together for my brother’s wedding this weekend.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, I got some more laundry done, and packed for the weekend.

Thursday

Left work early to head up to Charlottesville for my brother’s wedding!  The trip was pretty uneventful.  We got checked into our hotel, then grabbed dinner at a steakhouse.  I had some wonderful salmon!

Friday

On Friday, we got up to head into Charlottesville so I could get my nails done with the girls.  It was a fun time, full of mimosas and getting to know each other.  After Michael and I left Charlottesville, we went back to the hotel to get some lunch and get ready for rehearsal.  We got to Veritas early for rehearsal and had a glass of wine.  Rehearsal finished early, so we had some more wine until it was time to go to dinner.

Dinner was at a cool place called “The Local” in Charlottesville.  Yummy food and a great time.

Saturday

My brother got married!!! I’ll spare you all the details so here are the highlights:

  • getting ready starting at 10am for a 6pm wedding
  • Lots of champagne
  • pretty hair and makeup
  • bride freaking out about the weather
  • deciding to hold the wedding outside because its not supposed to rain until 9pm
  • rains through the entire outside wedding
  • we dance and party the night away

Sunday

Sunday was spent recovering from our hangovers.  We got on the road around 10:30, stopped at Tiffanys to get our rings cleaned, then stopped at the Continental for a late brunch, complete with mimosas and omelets!

It was a great week and now its back to reality! How was y0ur week?
