Weekly Update – 10/19/15 aka Fall Vacation!

This week was a pretty different week, as I was gone for a work conference and we had our fall vacation.  We were long overdue for some good R&R.  I was excited to go to a few wineries and see my nephew and take millions of pictures with him!

Monday

Monday was a normal day at work.  When I came home, my in-laws were there for a surprise visit, so I ended up not going to yoga.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, I worked a half day in the morning, then we headed up to Philadelphia for a work conference for me.  The drive was pretty uneventful.  Once we got up there, we went to Reading Terminal Market.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, I had my work conference all day, while Michael went to Atlantic City to play some blackjack.

Thursday

On Thursday, I had my conference until noon.  After that, we headed off to Waynesboro (near Charlottesville, VA) for our fall vacation.  We had a nice trip, again, pretty uneventful.

Friday

On Friday morning, we slept in and took our time getting going for the day.  We drove out to a cool B&B called the Iris Inn.  We will definitely stay there in the future.

Then we headed off to Veritas Winery to meet up with my brother and his fiancé.  They are getting married there next year.

Afterward, we headed to the campground to meet up with all of my family.  We played cornhole, ate, drank, and had a great time.

Saturday

On Saturday, we got up and headed out to Bold Rock Cidery.  I am allergic to apples, so no cider for me, but it was a really cool place!

The next stop was Afton Mountain Vineyards.  This place was really cool and had fantastic wine. The big group of us polished off 3 bottles.

Afterward, we headed back to the campground for more food, drink and cornhole!

Sunday

On Sunday, we headed back.  Made a quick pit stop at tiffany’s to get my rings cleaned.  We caught up on laundry, TV and some cleaning when we got home.

Race Recap: Crawlin Crab 5k 2015

The Crawlin Crab is one of my favorite races. I love the location and I love that its a J&A race!

Packet Pick-up/Expo

Everything was super efficient at packet pick-up; J&A races are always very well organized.  There weren’t a lot of people there.  I know this is a smaller race for them, but it felt excessively small.  Perhaps the reschedule of this race influenced that.

Race Day Conditions/Attire

The weather was amazing.  High of 65 for the day, and it was in the high 40s at the start.

I wore capris and a short sleeved shirt.  I felt great about what I chose to wore and as I warmed up, I was thankful I only wore a short sleeved shirt.

Pre-Race

Michael and I got there in plenty of time, and he left me in search of coffee.  The great thing about Crawlin Crab is the inside bathrooms! If you are willing to wait in line, no porta-potties needed!  I caught up with my friend Allyson, then headed to the start line.

Race Time

There were only 4 corrals and I was placed in Corral 2.  I started at the back of the corral, even though I knew Corral 3 would probably catch up with me.  I decided I’d run as much as I could, but I wasn’t going to push it.

I ran the first half mile straight, then started doing intervals.  I ran 1 minute, and walked 2.  I haven’t been running at all as I work to resolve my Plantar Fasciitis issues (yes still).  The miles ticked off pretty easy when I did intervals.

I was able to see Ryan Carroll run by when the course doubled back on itself and he had the lead pretty well secured. I like out and back courses where I can see the top finishers!

My official finish was 44:37.  Honestly, its much slower than I expected (even though I didn’t run much). I thought I could speedwalk faster than that!!!

But my races this fall are not about doing well. They are about having fun and falling back in love with running.

After Party

I picked up my dry bag, then headed to the after party.  I wasn’t a huge fan of it being outside, even though the weather was nice.  At least when you are inside, you can sit on the floor and relax. It was too muddy outside for that.  They had Tomato and cheese soup from Baker’s Crust in a bread bowl as the food. YUM.

Overall Reactions

This is a fun race and it made me get excited about running again.  I’m glad I was able to do it even with the reschedule.

Weekly Update – 10/12/15

This week was a pretty stressful week with work, but I had a great weekend!  And I finally got back to doing races after a VERY long hiatus!

Monday

Even though it was a holiday and work was closed, my husband ended up having to go into work and help with a problem.  Such is the world of an IT professional! We had plans for dinner that night, but ended up cancelling them.  It secretly made me happy because I got to go to yoga!  It was great to have Jaye back, and it was a pretty tough class.  Love getting back to yoga!

Tuesday

This was the only day this week I could really get to the gym….you’ll see why if you read on….

Warmup: Foam Roll

Two Rounds:

  1. Walking RDL’s with dumbbells
  2. Walking lunges with dumbbells

Three Rounds:

  1. Kneeling overhead press (10 each side)
  2. Triceps curls (10)

*Side note: I haven’t worked my triceps well in ages.  They hurt for 2 days!

Wednesday – Thursday

I attended a training class for work.  I work in the technology field, and this training was working toward a Foundations certification for something called ITIL (basically teaches you how to run an IT shop).  I hope that I will be able to move on and get an intermediate level certification, because this stuff is great!  However, I had to get up super early to drive to another city for the training, then had hours of studying on top of that.  I also had to log into work and get some stuff done after hours.

Friday

Friday was my exam, so we finished up early.  I was able to go home and catch up on some work before a night of R&R.

Saturday

Crawlin Crab 5K! Omg the weather. Drool.  It was amazing.  Recap to come!

First race as a MRS!

After the race, we went to the ODU Homecoming game.  It was great weather for a game! We got tickets through a vendor at work, and we were able to get ON THE FIELD for the entire 2nd quarter.  It was a rough game, but ODU won!  When I was on the field, I even ran into my former trainer Nicole. It was wonderful to see her 🙂

Sunday

After church we grabbed some lunch at Taste Unlimited (yum!) and then went to Old Navy.  I got some new jeans (it was time!) and a few new tops.  After that, we just vegged and watched football all afternoon.

Weekly Update – 10/5/15

This was a pretty decent week, nothing too crazy out of the ordinary.  Its been nice to have some relaxing weekends lately, cause work has been a bit stressful.

Monday

Body Flow with Jamie.  I think this is the last week until Jaye comes back and we start doing yoga again.  I’m kind of getting used to Body Flow, its not too bad!

Tuesday

Warmup: Foam Roll

Conditioning: 10 minutes on elliptical

Three Rounds:

  1. 500 Meter Row
  2. 10 KB Goblet Squats (20 lbs)

Wednesday

Stretch and Strengthen class.  I am starting to enjoy this class as well, and its the last week before Jaye returns.  This class was a little more relaxed than normal – I actually wanted to do more core work this class and she didn’t do any.

Thursday

It was such a nice day on Thursday, I couldn’t bring myself to go to the gym.  Michael and I went for a walk around the neighborhood instead.  It was just over 1.5 miles, but it was really nice just to enjoy the cooler weather.

Friday

Just a chill night.  Michael and I just stayed in and watched a movie.

Saturday

On Saturday, Michael was a trooper.  I got up and mowed the lawn and cleaned up the flowerbeds, while he went to get a haircut.  As I write that sentence, it seems very backward. Shouldn’t I be the one getting a haircut and him doing the lawn? 🙂  Then he came back, we both got ourselves showered and ready for the day, then we headed off to get some errands done.  We took stuff to donate (and get it OUT of the house).  Then we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and finished off our registry.  After that, we made a dreaded Walmart trip to get some essentials. It was a busy day!

Sunday

On Sunday, we went to church, lunch, then made a visit to the other side of the city to look a builder’s model home.  We are hoping and dreaming for a future home and we wanted to check out their work.  They are just starting to clear land for a development right down the street from us, so we are getting excited!

Weekly Update – 9/28/15

I was looking forward to the Crawlin Crab 5k, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the weather.  It was a great week to catch up from life and de-stress.

Monday

Body Flow night! I’m actually starting to like this class a lot.  I like doing different sections to music.  Although the ab track is NOT my favorite.  I can’t believe I ever used to take a 30 min abs class.  Maybe I need to get back to that….

Tuesday

Everything on Tuesday worked against me getting to the gym.  I ended up skipping.

Wednesday

The stretch and strengthen class is starting to grow on me, but I had to go to worship team practice.  My church is celebrating 9 years on Sunday – so we wanted to make sure to get a little extra practice time in.

Thursday

Warm up: Foam Roll

Heart Rate Training: Elliptical for 1/2 mile, keeping heart rate under 150

5 Rounds:

  1. 1 minute on the ReACT trainer
  2. 10 KB high pulls
  3. 5 KB swings

On Thursday, I found out that the Crawlin Crab race weekend had been postponed by 2 weeks due to the nor’easter we’d been having, as well as the impending doom of Hurricane Joaquin!

Friday

On Friday night, we went to get some Mexican food with Michael’s brother, and just had a relaxing evening.

Saturday

Crawlin Crab was cancelled, so I took advantage of it and slept in like a champ!  We got some laundry and other chores done, but mostly we just hung around the house watching movies and being lazy!

Sunday

Sunday was our 9 year celebration of our church’s existence.  It was a great service and wonderful celebration.  We came home, did more chores, got the grocery shopping done for the week, and watched our Eagles lose. I also lost in fantasy football 😦  We also had a little adventure with the stove….Michael was cooking and burnt all our vegetables into the pan.  We think the one burner heats up a lot more than the others for some reason.  While I know there are things you can do to try to clean it…yeahhhh we are a bit lazy. It was so bad we had to throw the pot out – there was no saving it.
